Gallbladder attacks advice PART 2, where heybwoss gets ready to celebrate

In June 23 Heybwoss started the thread titled "gallbladder attacks advice". I don't know how to do links, but that thread helped a number of us through some really dark and scary times. Now heybwoss is finally getting her gallbladder removed this Friday! This thread is to have a space to check in about that, and for anyone suffering the awful physical and psychological pain and suffering while waiting to have theirs removed, for all those missing all the celebratory and holiday meals, missing the ease of simply eating when hungry, and simply missing the ease of enjoying eating without The Fear. Come on heybwoss 🥳🥳🥳

I've tried to link posters names but i can't work out how to do this.

@stargirl1701 - hope you're feeling better today.

@AlltheJays23 - great news that you have a date for surgery! But sorry you're ill with a cold/flu.

It's interesting that your pain comes back when you're active. This makes me wonder if it's muscular. Activity has never been a trigger for my gallbladder pain - it's either been food-related or completely random (biliary colic or inflammation). I hope you get an answer once you're well enough to see your GP.

I did get my blood test, thanks 😊. I've just phoned for the results: they're back, but a doctor hasn't looked at them yet, so I need to ring again at 6. Hope my CRPs are down.

But I am feeling so much better now that I think the antibiotics must have worked. I have no pain and I've got my energy back. I managed to tidy up the kitchen and put a load of washing on, which felt good (I mean boring, but useful).

Sorry @Rarewaxwing I mean I didnt want to go the doctors surgery with my germs. I've still no update on surgery and as far as my GP is concerned the last time we spoke I was still on a watch and wait approach. Because I don't get agonizing biliary colic they are saying my condition is unlikely to get worse. Go figure hey.
This pain might well be muscular but it in exactly same place as my gallbladder pain in my side, kind of where bra strap goes.
I'm so glad your feeling much better. Onwards!

@AlltheJays23 - ah, sorry, I misread. How frustrating. I hope you find out what's going on.

@ihaveayod - great news that you have a date for surgery. Must be such a relief. You'll be counting down the days.

Rarewaxwing · 22/01/2024 18:34

GP hasn't had time to review my blood-test results, so I have to ring back tomorrow at midday.

It's so frustrating still not knowing if my op will go ahead or not!

Hello

I been both fine and struggling today. Morphine helped when I was finding the pain too much.

I got up for all meals, managed a shower and the stairs a few times. I thought about trying a walk outside but the weather was not conducive!

I've been quite queasy but not sick. I'm sure it's the antibiotics. Today is last day of them, thankfully.

Peeing has been fine but I haven't had a bowel movement in nearly 14 days. I was on Laxido in hospital.

Glad you still have morphine for the pain. Sounds like you are definitely making progress. Be careful not to overdo it, though.

I was reading through my hospital discharge notes on pain relief today. In case these are useful for you, the notes said:

'All painkillers work best when preventing pain rather than treating pain once it has occurred, therefore you will need to take pain relief regularly in advance of pain returning.' It said this also helps you to exercise, which prevents other complications.

The notes also say: 'Stop taking codeine, tramadol and oral morph first. Then stop taking ibuprofen, and the paracetamol last.'

I hope you stop feeling queasy as you finish the antibiotics. Could you get more Laxido to prevent constipation? My body ceased up for several days after the ERCP.

Rarewaxwing · 23/01/2024 13:19

My blood-test results have been sent to the surgeon and he's confirmed I'm safe for surgery tomorrow.

I feel nervous! I didn't expect to feel this way again, but maybe this is just how I'll feel whenever I'm having surgery.

I know I have to have it, but it feels so odd to be choosing to swap feeling well to feeling sore, even though it will obviously be better for me in the long run.

Anyway, one step at a time.

Rarewaxwing · 23/01/2024 14:32

Oh. Late results for my iron levels show I'm anaemic. Waiting to find out if op can still go ahead...

HeyBwoss · 23/01/2024 14:36

Fingers crossed @Rarewaxwing! I felt exactly the same, in fact just before my surgery when the surgeon was running over the consent forms etc I actually had a wobble, wondering if I was doing the right thing

Rarewaxwing · 23/01/2024 14:43

@HeyBwoss - good to know these feelings are normal.

I'm also finding it difficult when people say it'll all be over soon, when I know I just have a different series of hurdles to jump over.

ihaveayod · 23/01/2024 18:47

@Rarewaxwing Hope your surgery can go ahead. If it does, good luck.

Thank you 😊. I haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming it will happen.

I'm leaving for the hospital at 11 tomorrow morning, having the op in the afternoon, then staying overnight.

Hopefully, the meds will help me feel a lot calmer after the op than I'm feeling right now!

stargirl1701 · 23/01/2024 20:59

Good luck @Rarewaxwing

Thank you! Just arriving at the hospital. Not long now!

Rarewaxwing · 24/01/2024 13:57

Waiting to go in now. I requested a pre-med, so they've given me tramadol. Feeling nicely woozy now.

Rarewaxwing · 24/01/2024 17:58

I'm gallbladder free! Still woozy and have just been texting nonsense to DH.

The gas pain is the worst. Nurse said moving around is the best remedy. She will help me. But - dinner first.

stargirl1701 · 24/01/2024 18:00

Glad to hear it! Small dinner, eat slowly!

ihaveayod · 24/01/2024 18:07

@Rarewaxwing That's brilliant news. Hopefully you will have a quick recovery and will be able to eat cheese (I miss cheese haha) and cream cakes.

vinoandbrie · 24/01/2024 18:12

Oh well done, it’s out, go you! I’m sorry the gas pain is horrible, I hope it fades soon.

Rarewaxwing · 24/01/2024 18:41

Thank all. Just had a visit from the surgeon. He said I can eat whatever I want to now - but I'm still going to take it slowly.
