Cashless venues

Youngest Son going on afternoon/ evening trip to theme park tomorrow (Halloween & fireworks).
Just found out it's cashless.
Was going to give him money to buy hot chocs, chips, hot dog etc. Now I don't know what I'm going to do. Can't get him a bank card before he goes.
I know it's not the end of the world but very frustrating.
Just venting really.

Most cashless theme parks have a kiosk where you can load cash and get a card that works in the park.

but if his phone has tap to pay functionality, you could also load one of your cards onto his phone.

Just for occaisonal bus journeys.... xH gave our youngest a debit card on a bank account xH forgot to close, then xH could just put £20 or so in there & DS had a card DS could use in emergencies. Not remotely possible for you?

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 29/10/2023 19:58

I wouldn't trust him with my card. I need that money for bills.
I don't have another card for tomorrow to give him.

Does he have a phone that you could get revolut on and use contact less on the phone?

Ibravedaflood · 29/10/2023 20:02

Go Henry card?

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 29/10/2023 20:03

I have never heard of revolut. The problem is getting one by tomorrow.
He's 11

Message whoever he is going with (assume friend and their parents) and ask them to treat him to hot chocolate etc up to the value of £20, or £10, and you will transfer funds over once they've told you the amount he's used.

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 29/10/2023 20:09

I've just asked him, both his friends were going to take cash, they don't have cards either.

It's a trip with youth club

If I were taking a group of young people somewhere, and discovered once there or at the last minute that this problem had arisen, I would be happy for them to give me the cash and to then get them a drink or whatever on my card, if it were at a level of getting them a drink at some point (wouldn't buy out the whole gift shop, but happy to do it for an ice=cream or a hot chocolate).

Invisimamma · 29/10/2023 20:28

Who is he going with? Could you transfer money to them that he can use?

Probably time to get him a card, most of the banks do them for 11yrs old and he's going to need one as lots of places as cashless now. It's really handy for sending money quickly when they're out and about with friends.

TheGhostILoveTheMost · 29/10/2023 20:55

I'll just send him with food and drinks tomorrow but will sort out a card for future

Don't large supermarkets sell prepaid Mastercards/VISA cards with their gift cards?

Danikm151 · 29/10/2023 21:00

Could transfer your money into a saving account and leave around £20 in your bank and give him your card? He can’t spend more than what’s on it then

Eggbuttie · 29/10/2023 21:21

With revolut it's instant and the card is in your virtual wallet in your phone not a physical card. I'm not sure about the kids account but we use ours abroad and in shops all the time. You just get the account online and its there straight away. We transfer our spending money into it

Snowdropsarelovely · 29/10/2023 21:32

If you can get to the post office tomorrow they sell a prepaid MasterCard. Just put the amount on it that you want him to have and you can top it up on an app which you put on your phone. In the future if he goes abroad, you can put the local currency on it – that's what I do for my DC for school trips

Apple Pay doesn't work for under 11s so it won't work.

dreamgirllll · 29/10/2023 21:53

I'd give him your card but only keep £20 on there and transfer the rest into a separate account just for the night
