When Botox doesn't work...?

Has anyone ever experienced Botox being ineffective? Are there any alternatives that are available instead?

I was just about to post something similar. My botox kicks in after about a week, lasts for about 2 weeks then all the wrinkles reappear. Waste of time and money.
Hopefully there will be some suggestions. I've trued EVERYTHING

Do you get it from a proper aesthetic practioner?

feathers7 · 29/10/2023 17:03

My practitioner does a two week follow up, so can do any top up necessary. I thought this was usual?

I was finding this so today I had a fringe cut. Job done Blush

I used to have it for a medical condition. There are several different strains and you can develop immunity to each one, so in a hospital setting your consultant cycles through them. There's also a product called Dysport but personally I think its more painful than Botox - I find its like being injected with icy water. If you develop immunity they tell you to switch strain or take a break from it to reset your immune system.

@PrincessHoneysuckle Yes, he's also a consultant as well as having the aesthetics business on the side.

@feathers7 I already get double the dose and it's no longer working.

@vernatheraven Unfortunately a fringe won't get rid of my constant headache.

@Thelnebriati I get it due to the headaches I get from subconscious frowning all the time, so it is for relief of symptoms but still something I get done privately rather than recognised as for medical purposes. I took a 2 year break but it was still ineffective. I'm not sure I can get alternate strains from an aesthetics practitioner?

That's very strange and sounds like it's not been done correctly. Have you tried more than one practitioner?

Scabber · 30/10/2023 10:24

Yes and I've stubbornly stuck with the best rated despite the expense. Maybe I should try one of the 3 areas for £200 places, save myself a fortune!

I get Botox in my masseter muscles to prevent teeth grinding. Sometimes it doesn’t completely paralyse the muscle and my jaw still aches. In that case, a top up may be required

Thelnebriati · 30/10/2023 15:00

If you can't get it on the NHS, look into going private. I'm afraid I have no idea how much it would cost or who would offer it.
