Tell me about your Velvetiser

(The hot chocolate maker from Hotel Chocolat)

Do you have one? Do you use it often? Must you buy the pre-grated chocolate from HC or would it work as well if you grate your own good quality bar?

I was close to buying one last year after trying a hot chocolate made with one, but never got round to it. This year I'm pregnant so there'll be no mulled wine / baileys / fizz other festive treat drinks.

I'm thinking about treating myself to one for a little indulgence on cold days, but I wonder if it'll end up gathering dust and it seems quite a lot for an appliance with just one function.

Thanks in advance.

I've used whittard powder sachets and also cadburys hot choc, but much prefer the Hotel Chocolat 50% milky ones! I prefer my hot chocolate warmer so I just heat my mug in the microwave. I use it 5-6x a week in the winter, not all for me but for my DC too, they have cadburys.

Thanks all, I've now ordered one! I did look at the Dualit but it was almost the same price as the HC one with an offer, and I also got a discount on some sachets ordering them all at the same time Smile

I love mine, I'm drinking a velvetiser hot chocolate right now! DP bought it for me with the subscription last year. I have tried other chocolate flakes with it, all have been good. Haven't tried powder yet!
DP also uses it to froth milk for coffee, he says it's perfect for that.

I had a Swan one to start with but I am essentially very shallow and it didn't look as nice as the Velvetiser.

It’s in the cupboard and rarely comes out!

Too much faff for me.

Karwomannghia · 29/10/2023 20:25

It basically heats and stirs / whisks really well. It doesn’t matter what you put in it comes out mixed to perfection!

We have the Smeg milk frother. So much better than the velvetiser!

I have one and use it multiple times daily for milk for my coffee, and every so often for a hot chocolate (chocolate flakes from Tesco). I know they're expensive but I love mine.

Absolutely love it 😍 We don’t always buy the Velvetiser sachets though as they’re very expensive. We’re currently using the Costa hot chocolate from Sainsbury’s which I believe is £2.75 for Nectar card holders. It gets approx 10 drinks from it which I think is a real bargain. You need to get the milk swirling and add the chocolate to it if you’re not using the sachets.

I have a 20 odd quid milk warmer and frother from amazon. Works just as well and I feel the hotel chocolate one is pricy for how much I'd use it.
