Pleas help awful back pain

Had a niggling back pain in my shoulder blade the last 2 weeks. This evening it's like someone has turned the dial up suddenly. Im away from home and had to make an emergency stop for pain killers. Worse when I'm holding the bags, ok and almost untraceable when I'm lying down but comes straight back if I sit up or stand up. If its still here Monday I'll see the gp but until then just wondering if anyone had something similar and what might help? It started as muscle ache but now feels like a blunt object being pushed into my back, almost winding me and tentacles of pain reaching down my ribs and up into my shoulder.

Is it your right shoulder blade about half way?

Delatron · 28/10/2023 21:21

Don’t want to alarm. But no chance you’re pregnant? Ectopic pregnancy can present as pain in shoulder blade..

I'm not sure what painkillers you have but I found codiene / cocdamol the best for back pain. Though mine is nerve issues.

Heat packs too if you can get hold of them/heat them. And ibuprofen Gel. If you are in UK, call 111 they will get you a stronger prescription to a chemist near you.

Call 111, definitely. I could be nothing much, it could be serious. 111 have a series of questions that can work out which it is.

I use cocodamol for low back and hip pain regularly. But you will need to see your GP to get appropriate painkillers for your unique situation. Fingers crossed you get this sorted. NHS 24 is necessary.

Is the pain around where your bra strap would be? If so, could be gallstones?

Thanks for your replies. I slept well and woke up with no pain but it's come back since I've been up and about this morning but not as bad last night. It's unlikely I'm pregnant but not impossible. The pain is on my left side, under my bra strap area. I've taken pain killers today. Travelling back home later so I'll see how I do with the drive and next morning. Might need a gp visit though as I was nearly in tears last night.
