Taping Strictly on Sky and stupid message about upgrading

Arghh!!! We have a Sky box. We usually tape Strictly to watch it later, but all series it's had this bloody annoying message ALL PROGRAMME across the bottom half of the screen about upgrading your box so you have HD BBC. Is there any way to get rid of this???

I think it won't go away until you upgrade your box because all bbc channels will only be HD soon a d you won't be able to watch them without doing so. I'm surprised that you still have the old non HD box as HD as been standard for years

Try contacting Sky. We were offered a new contract & they updated our existing box remotely, we'd had the box ages. We don't have a package for all Sky HD channels, so I had to manually reprogramme my regular recordings to record in SD. I get that message if I haven't altered the HD / SD option on the recordings menu.

But we DO have an HD box!

Have you checked that it is the HD chanel that it is recording and not the SD one. HD should be chanel 101 whereas SD is chanel 801. Also is the HD box one that came direct from sky or did you buy it elsewhere / is in 2nd hand as this may have an impact if sky think you still have an older box

Nah, box direct from Sky. Think you're right that we should swap to recording on the BBC1 HD channel.

I was getting that message, also having an HD box. Because I was recording on the SD channel as it takes up less space on the box!! I am not very pleased with SKY. It surely cant be any skin off their nose if I, as a paying customer, choose to record in slightly poorer quality. The difference in size of recordings HD vs SD is enormous.

It's because the BBC are switching off the SD feed on all their satellite channels on 8th Jan 2024. So you won't be able to receive the SD feed after that hence Sky warning you to change over in advance of the switch-off.

Thanks I was a bit puzzled and the SKY page wasnt very helpful. They should have just written what you wrote!

I’m still getting the annoying BBC HD message despite 8th January having passed and my BBC channels still working because I do have a compatible sky box! I really don’t want to have to phone sky but I think I will have to. I hoped it would disappear when the switch happened!
