Trying to figure out if I need to go to the hospital or if this is even related. Dog bite

This isn't the issue now but two weeks ago I got bit by a random dog in the street, it didn't have a lead or collar and there was nobody around so no owner, it jumped up at me and bit my wrist. I'm not going to make out the bite was life threatening, it did break the skin but required no stitches and could have been a lot worse.

Got anti biotics from hospital. Its healing just fine. I'm not sure if this is related or something else! Not sure if I would be wasting their time if I go to the hospital?

All of a sudden tonight my entire hand/wrist/thumb is so painful its making me feel sick, if I move my thumb I'm almost in tears its that painful, I can grip things but it hurts and it feels very weak, I tried to pick up my small cup of coffee an hour ago and it just dropped from my hand, it felt 50 times heavier than it should have been.. Shooting pains going half way up my arm, if I try to turn my hand over to say show you the palm of my hand I can't do it, it gets half way then I have to stop.

There is no swelling and its not hot or red, it literally came out of nowhere, I've gone from healing brilliant and no pain to constant pain that hasn't stopped for hours. If I had to describe the pain, Imagine sitting on your hand for an entire night then trying to move it, that sharp, shooting pain, Almost like a sprain type pain. I have not hurt myself, banged into anything etc.

Is this worth a trip to the hospital or doctors on Monday?

Thanks

I'd go and check at a walk in centre if you have one. IT's possibly become infected.

Miscellaneousme · 27/10/2023 23:09

I’d definitely go to the hospital OP.

RallyRallyAppreciateIt · 27/10/2023 23:12

I’d maybe wait and go first thing in the morning. Early.
DH has been in A& E 11 hours so far, spent 7 of those on a chair in a corridor, now has a bed, has finally had a blood test but still not actually been seen by a Dr.

Phone 111, they can advise you further.

Riola · 27/10/2023 23:24

It sounds potentially infected or some kind of nerve damage? I think get to a walk in or a&e asap. Definitely don’t wait until Monday to see a GP.

That’s appalling that happened to you. It’s quite rare nowadays to have stray dogs around assuming you’re in the UK. Hope you can report it to relevant authorities as there’s basically a feral dog on the loose.

tortoiseshellcats · 27/10/2023 23:27

I'd definitely get that seen immediately OP - potential infection or even nerve pain? Could definitely be from the bite, calling 111 might get you an out of hours appointment which may be quicker than a&e on a Friday night

dintgt · 27/10/2023 23:30

thank you all, on with 111 now

I'd phone 111 and see what their suggestion is. Personally I think that needs looking at pretty son, not after the weekend

Letsgoroundagain101 · 27/10/2023 23:31

Sounds horrible, poor you.
Phone 111, I’m sure they’ll advise you to get it checked asap. They’ll be able to tell you where best to go. They recommended to me which local a&e was quietest last time I called them and the hospital was expecting me when I arrived.

chanceornochance · 27/10/2023 23:46

OP, I'm sure 111 will advise that you need emergency medical treatment.... please please go to A&E or your local equivalent ASAP. What you describe sounds very similar to something I had from an infection from a fall when I cut my knee. Skin broke, was cleaned and healed, no outward sign of any problem.

Then 2 weeks later, unimaginable pain like you are describing. My then husband managed to convince me to let him take me to A&E. I was on intravenous antibiotics for 2 weeks solid to get the infection out my body.

Please please go get this sorted. It sounds like it's really serious. Take care of yourself. But please act. (I don't mean to be alarmist, but...)

Notcookie · 27/10/2023 23:52

I suspect 111 will tell you to go to A&E.

dintgt · 27/10/2023 23:54

111 said they will get a doctor to call me within six hours. A&E is a ten minute walk from my house so I will get a few things together and go. thanks again all.

Id say it sounds more like carpel tunnel, maybe a coincidence with the bite especially if you had antibiotics too. I suffer with something similar to carpel tunnel and it sounds like the pain you're describing

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/10/2023 23:57

When I got bitten by a dog when out jogging, A&E gave me a tetanus jab.

Doingmybest12 · 28/10/2023 07:02

Think sepsis, I would go to hospital..

BettyPhuckzer · 28/10/2023 07:07

I'm glad you're going to the hospital. Let us know how things are 🩵

Can I ask what happened to the dog /owner? Was it off leash? Sorry a bit off topic but I’m just curious to know what happens when dogs bite total strangers. I’m already uneasy about running or even walking outside in parks for various reasons including dogs, so I probably shouldn’t ask 😩

determinedtomakethiswork · 28/10/2023 09:59

That sounds really horrible. I'm glad that you went to the hospital in the end.

dintgt · 28/10/2023 21:31

Quick update.. it was unrelated! I have tendinitis, Not sure how but that's what they said it was.

thanks everyone x

That's really good news - but well done for getting it checked out.
