Do you speak on the phone much at all now?

Just wondering if you speak on the phone much at all now? I don’t. Its
mainly text and what’s app. It’s so convenient to send Messages and am
usually multi tasking. I do prefer to see
people in person - parents sisters and friends to catch up. But not really one for talking on the phone.
how about you?

Barely ever. With my parents I might FaceTime once a month. The rest of the time and also with everyone else it’s WhatsApp or nothing!

Icopewhenihope · 27/10/2023 20:10

Making an appointment yes. Chatting? No for years! Hate it anyway.

pilates · 27/10/2023 20:10

No
I was just getting nuisance calls and unplugged it.

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 27/10/2023 20:12

Only chat to my mum

miss chatting to friends

have a couple of friends I exchange WhatsApp voice notes with

ScarboroughHair · 27/10/2023 20:13

I still have phone catch ups with some friends but I feel out of step with my peers, I'm in my late 30s and not many use the phone any more. I actually hate messaging though, I find it much more mentally taxing than picking up the phone and I cannot do it whilst multitasking at all.

EducatingArti · 27/10/2023 20:13

Yes. I chat to family and friends. I find it easier to talk for longer or more complex discussions

LubaLuca · 27/10/2023 20:14

Yes, I speak to my dad a couple of times a week, and a friend calls on her way to work at least once a week. My MIL doesn't have a mobile so she still calls weekly. I have to phone people for work every day as well, so it's definitely still a normal thing for me.

bryceQ · 27/10/2023 20:15

Yes multiple times a day with my family (we live different cities) but I hate to speak on the phone in other contexts

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/10/2023 20:15

Never unless it's to make an appointment or some other necessary call. Meanwhile DH is always on the phone to his Mum or Sister.

Breadahead · 27/10/2023 20:15

A very quick hello with DH at lunchtimes, and speak to my mum once or twice a week. Haven't spoken to a friend on the phone in years.

Taytocrisps · 27/10/2023 20:21

I talk to people on the phone all day at work.

At home the only person I have lengthy phone calls with is my sister and that's because she loves talking on the phone.

I speak to my Dad once a week or so but only for about 10 minutes if that. Same with my brother.

I don't talk to friends on the phone all that much. I prefer to talk to them in person. I usually Whatspp them or text them if I want to tell them anything between meetups.

There was a time I was never off the phone and there'd be an inquisition when the phone bill would arrive.

bullseyeboat · 27/10/2023 20:23

No, I avoid it as much as possible. I always have though.

Hatty65 · 27/10/2023 20:51

Yes. Two of my DC live several hundred miles away. I'd rather chat on the phone than simply text them.

Doggymummar · 27/10/2023 20:53

I try ( it's my job) but no-one answers

assignedmeowth · 27/10/2023 20:54

No, never. I hate chatting on the phone, and I hate voice notes.

user1497787065 · 27/10/2023 20:58

I think it’s sad that the art of conversation is disappearing. I think text/WhatsApp is fine for conveying messages but nothing replaces a proper conversation.

KohlaParasaurus · 27/10/2023 21:00

I speak to my parents on the phone nearly every day, two of my children phone me regularly (the others prefer to text or IM), and if we're in different places my husband and I phone one another. Before I stopped work I spent a lot of the day doing telephone consultations.

Swifty1newmama · 27/10/2023 21:00

Love talking on the phone and speak with my mum most days. With friends often have to schedule a time to call rather than just ring out of the blue

Beezknees · 27/10/2023 21:01

I work in customer service so I spend all day talking on the phone! But on a personal level, not really.

StarDolphins · 27/10/2023 21:01

For work & making appointments yes. Otherwise, I want people to use WhatsApp to contact me. My Ex rings me ALL the time & it’s for ridiculous things & I’ve said many times please text instead!

RedRiverShore4 · 27/10/2023 21:04

I speak to DS on the phone, we rarely see DS and it would be odd if we only texted him and didn't speak to him. I also speak to DH on the phone sometimes.

Malbecmama · 27/10/2023 21:11

I speak with mom and sister daily on the phone. Mainly what's app text and voice messages with mates, but do call close friends/family while walking the dog sometimes/or long car journeys. On the phone on and off all day at work but do find text/email comms less draining with clients. I'm a chatterbox x

Ifailed · 27/10/2023 21:11

maybe it's time to stop calling them mobile phones then?

Perhaps go back to PDA.

muddyford · 27/10/2023 21:17

I use my landline for daily chats with my mother, several days a week to my sister, then four different friends who live at a distance, plus a mega chat with a friend who moved to NZ. Plus texts and WhatsApps and long video calls to Auckland.
