Should a massage time include getting undressed & dressed?

I booked a 35 min massage. I arrived at exactly the time booked (3.30), she took me into the room around 3 mins after. She then left me for around 7 mins to get changed (I was ready after about 2!). The massage was fine but when I looked at the time when she'd finished it was 4pm. She obviously left me to get dressed which took a few minutes. Can't help feeling a bit short changed but didn't know if I'm paying for her time and therefore should expect getting undressed & dressed time to be included?

No that's really poor. I wouldnt expect all those delays. I wouldnt go back to that place after that

NotLactoseFree · 27/10/2023 16:52

No, that's poor. I think my massage place pitches massages as 50 minutes but are booked on the hour - I assume to accommodate a brief chat, changing etc.

LittleMrsPretty · 27/10/2023 16:53

When I book a 60min massage they are really clear that its a 50min massage with 5mins either side for changing.

35 mins is much shorter so would expect a 45min appt but depending on price maybe it was a 25min massage?

Cheeesus · 27/10/2023 16:54

She should have waited out side the door for you to say you were ready? Then that’s a few minutes saved.

IfYouDontAsk · 27/10/2023 16:55

Every time I’ve had a massage or other beauty treatment the spa has always said to arrive 15 mins before the appointment time so if you only arrived at the time the treatment was going to start then I don’t think you were ever going to get 35 minutes of actual massage time (they should have made this clear to you beforehand though and it sounds like they didn’t?). But she shouldn’t have left you in the treatment for so long after you started getting changed.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/10/2023 16:55

I'd expect, and have always received the full 30/60 minutes. When I first go somewhere, they usually do a consultation prior but getting changed doesn't count as part of the treatment time.

The only time I've ever been short changed is at spa days. They usually say 35 or 55 minute treatments but you actually get 25 or 45 minutes.

One woman I used to go to would say it takes as long as it takes. An hour with her would be a minimum of 90 minutes. She was always running late...

Utini · 27/10/2023 17:00

I think the woman I see allows 90 mins for a 60 minute massage, which gives plenty of time for changing either side, and a bit of a discussion about issues before and after, plus time for her to get the room ready for the next person.

I wouldn't be happy with your experience, although I've had similar before at a spa.

kittenchaos2 · 27/10/2023 17:02

When I go she books a 45 min massage every hour allowing for turn around

kittenchaos2 · 27/10/2023 17:03

Where I go not when.

Sirzy · 27/10/2023 17:03

I had an hours massage yesterday. I went in 10 minutes before the actual appointment time, the massage was the full hour and then I spent 5 minutes after getting dressed again (could have took longer if needed)

Orange67 · 27/10/2023 17:22

This is one of those situations when complaining about it at the time would have been more appropriate as you would have been at the reception desk exactly 30 minutes after you arrived so they could have seen you'd been short changed.

Funkyslippers · 27/10/2023 18:29

There was no requirement for me to get there early and no real consultation beforehand. I should have raised it there & then but didn't know if I should allow time for undressing and dressing. Will definitely leave review though! I have a feeling that on a Saturday late afternoon they probably wanted to shut up shop & go home as there were no customers except me in the salon

Just a little update. I posted a review about how I didn't get the full amount of time. The next day I got an email from the lady who said it does indeed include the prep time (even then I only got about 20 mins) but as it wasn't made clear she's giving me a free 20 min massage (not including prep time apparently!). Very pleased with the result but I just have to pluck up the courage to go back!
