Struggling that TTC isn’t happening quickly after previous termination

Conceived literally on the first time (as there was only one time it could’ve happened) nearly one year ago with now DH. It was very unplanned and I freaked out and had a medical termination at about 4.5 weeks which went as smoothly as it should. Periods have been a bit all over the place since with very long cycles - I was regularly 30 days each month before

I think I am 9, maybe 10dpo today and I’ve tested with a clearblue and it’s negative. I am really upset but trying not to be. I know it can take time but we’re only in our 20s and to conceive immediately before and now not, when we want to, is really hard to accept

I’m worried that somehow the termination has affected my fertility :(

Do not panic. How long have you been TTC already? Are you tracking your cycles so that you know when you are ovulating?

9-10 dpo is very early still. I did get a positive test with my first at 10dpo, but that's unusually early. With my 2nd, it wasn't until 16 dpo, despite feeling so nauseous and ill that I needed to come home early from work.

Did you become pregnant last time whilst on birth control?

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 16:00

You don’t say how long you have e been trying for

Did you become pregnant last time whilst on birth control?

Yes but wasn’t hormonal

Clearblues aren’t very good so at 9/10 dpo I doubt they would show anything (unless it was an evap as they are rubbish in multiple ways)

Yes but wasn’t hormonal

So you used a condom and became pregnant?

MeinKraft · 27/10/2023 16:58

I think you're a bit premature to be worrying that you have a problem with your fertility when you've only been TTC for 10 days.

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 16:59

Come in again

This is the first month of trying?

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 17:01

op - it is your first month.

how far in to your 20s are you?

cultureplanet · 27/10/2023 16:58

So you used a condom and became pregnant?

Correct.

it is really hard, but there's no reason the termination will have had an effect on your fertility. You're not even at the end of cycle 1, I didn't get a positive until 15 dpo. And it's cycle 1. Try and enjoy it, and keep busy in the rest of your life.

WeightoftheWorld · 27/10/2023 17:08

Honestly, you just need to try and relax. Statistically most people won't conceive a baby randomly through one cycle. It's just luck really, even if you're in prime fertility! We were 23 when we conceived our first and that was on the 5th cycle. 27 with our second which was conceived on our fourth cycle. It's just luck really, could take months, just have to wait and see.

Lottie2267 · 27/10/2023 17:36

Wow, try 2 and a half years! Many, many others have been trying much longer. I really don’t think you need to be worrying at this stage….

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 27/10/2023 18:25

You have around a 20% chance of getting pregnant a month. It’s the first month ttc…do not worry.

ohfork · 27/10/2023 19:16

So I thought the test earlier was negative, only waited with it maybe 2 or 3 minutes then left it to one side. It’s now looking like this. Is this an evap?

Could be a positive, could be an evap, hard to say.

Get a first response early result test if you must, but temper your expectations.

As PP have said, you only have a 20% chance of pregnancy each month even in the right conditions. So it would be perfectly normal and healthy for it to take 6 months to conceive, even a year.

I know it's impossible, but you need to do some research about the odds and try to relax/set more realistic expectations or you're going to get yourself into an awful depression. Trust me, I've been there.
