Help - present for my 20 year old niece

My niece is coming to the UK for Christmas, from Australia. I haven't seen her for 5 years thanks to Covid.

I'm trying to think what to buy her. Whatever it is, she'll have to take it back with her in her suitcase.

I don't know what sort of jewellery and make up she likes. I was wondering about perfume, but don't know what a 20 year old would go for.

Any ideas?

I’m 23 and favourite perfumes are Black Opium, Alien by Thierry mulger, Roberto Cavali or Si by Georgio Armani. Mind you perfume could still be a risk as she might prefer a certain scent. Have you thought about a voucher or is that too impersonal?

What about an experience eg a lovely afternoon tea or similar, or something like a lovely photo frame?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/10/2023 16:03

@Houseplantmad thanks, she's only in the UK for a few days so I'm not sure an experience would work. I could buy her one for Australia I suppose?

@OutsideEveryday I quite often send her vouchers or money because of the distance, I was hoping to get her an actual present as I haven't seen her for 5 years, so I'd like to see her open something. Thanks for the perfume suggestions.

Links friendship bracelet, quite sturdy and long lasting.

Budget?
Tricky age as they know what they like and dislike.

I would never buy perfume for someone. Scents are so personal, and quite divisive. Can you speak to her parents and get some clues?

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 27/10/2023 17:29

Can you ask a family member if she has pierced ears? Oliver Bonas do nice earrings...

I'd personally would go for something that's related to the UK - like a classic British novel or a beautiful photo book of British countryside/wildlife/history.
At 20 I wasn't interested in jewellery/perfume/make up at all.

Vivienne Westwood bracelet, related to the uK, won't take up any suitcase weight

Not British, but a Nomination bracelet (or watch) that you can buy charms for. You can get her started with a niece charm or something typifying the UK.

DD is 21 and she and her friends love theirs. They have the original bracelet and each bracelet is different and reflects their interests, travel, success etc

Go to her Insta and see what accounts she follows. That should give some clues about the kind of brands she'd love.

Thanks, I don't know if she's got an IG account but can ask my sister
