School applications query - only putting one school on form?

We live about 30 metres from the outstanding primary school we would like our 3yo to attend next September.

Some people have advised me to only put this one school on our LA application form, and not put any other schools down at all. Is that the correct advice?

I assume we are 99% sure DC will get a place at the school but I don't want to make a misstep.

Can anyone advise? First child so no experience of school applications.

At that kind of distance you are almost certainly going to be allocated a place but strange things can and do occasionally happen. In my youngest son's reception year every single child in the year group had at least one sibling further up the school. If there had been a siblingless child in the house right next door to the school, that year sibling priority would have ruled them out of a place . Nobody could remember it happening before and it hasn't happened since...but it shows that it's always sensible to have a plan B.
This topic comes up every year and there are always people who say "well I only put one preference and got it so it works" but the reality of the matter is that they got that place because they were entitled to it and they would have still been entitled to it if they had fully completed the form. Only putting one school down did not influence the outcome. The best advice is always to fully complete the form, put the schools you want in the genuine order of your preference, making sure there is always at least one that you have a strong likelihood of getting into and which is acceptable to you even if it's not your favourite. There is no (legal) way to play the system and force the LEAs hand, no matter what anyone tells you.
