Cam you be allergic to something but just on one part of your body

Bit of a weird question - but is this a thing?

I get an allergic reaction on my neck quite easily (redness, itchy, hives) - things that have caused it have been mainly beauty products like perfume and moisturiser.

So if for e.g. I use moisturiser on my legs they're fine, no reaction. But then I have to wash my hands afterwards because if I touch my neck with moisturiser on my hands it starts to react!

Some areas are more sensitive than others but as allergic reactions are an immune response it’s body wide, can’t just be specific areas

I wonder if certain products could trigger eczema? That condition can flare up on certain areas only, like neck or face...

I think you can. If I get mosquito bites on certain places they come up like saucers. Other places not so bad. It's like some spots got sensitised.

Are you using two different products on same area, maybe overlapping? I did this once and came out in a rash.

I’m also allergic to SLS Sodium lauryl sulfate which is found in lots of lotions/things and give me an allergic reaction in my mouth.

Yes

I've been getting rashes in my neck recently that I've never had before

They come and go

I take antihistamines sometimes

I think it's just from various lotions etc I've applied after my shower

I'm now just now applying anything to my neck and making sure when I'm on my phone etc that I do t look down causing a skin crease.

I also remove a pillow so my head lies flat. I've had a cold though this week so I'm back to 2 pillows so I can breathe properly

  • applying NOTHING to my neck

It's definitely certain products i have identified that do it. I have perfume that if I spray on my wrists I'm fine, but if I spray on my neck I come out it itchy hives.

I have Perfect Legs body butter which is fine if I use it on my legs, but if I get some on my neck I get the same itchy red hives.

There are others too. It's so weird.

Thought about going for a patch test, but as they do that on your back it will probably come back negative! Whereas if they did it on my neck it might show what I'm allergic to!

Yes, I'm the same. I can use just about any moisturiser on my legs but have to be a bit more cautious with the neck. If I buy a face cream that makes my neck react, I'll use it up on my hands or feet, to save wasting it.
