What did you/are you getting DH for his birthday?

I'm really struggling to get DH a good present this year for his birthday.

He's made hints on getting a certain type of whisky or game so I'm not going entirely blind but really looking for any inspiration for a bigger present or a present to complement the whisky/game that isn't socks/underwear/hat/ (which he has aplenty).

So I ask you, what did you get/are thinking of getting your DH for his birthday?

I was completely stumped for DH this year too. I’ve booked a couple of nights away in his favourite UK city in a nice hotel 😊 hopefully that’ll go down well 🤞🏼

DH's birthday is soon, we've bought him a new baseball cap and a new wallet. He's also getting some aftershave, a half season ticket to our local premiership rugby club and a new jacket.

DP's birthday is a week before Xmas. And I have to buy DP's presents from my mum for her. So its hard because I feel like I need triple the number of ideas.

Given this context, for birthdays I tend to do a thing rather than buy presents as such.

Last year I bought DP a fancy beef wellington from a butchers, ordered his favourite childhood (very regional) pudding from one of them puddings through the letter box places on Etsy, and went to Majestic to get some properly paired wine.

This year, I'm going to get him a toad in the hole (though looks like I'll need to make it myself), a school dinner pudding and some posh wine.

For Xmas I'm getting DP a monthly subscription box from a local snazzy bakery near us which would work well for a birthday too.

A few years ago, I bought DP a load of CeraVe skincare stuff and put it in a lovely box. It's a bit unusual but he was having some skin problems and asked for my help so I researched it deeply (on MN!), got the stuff in and presented it to him as a present.

Tickets to Comic Con with a photo op
Poster of our county done like a Lord of the Rings map
Geeky t shirt
Book I think he'll like
Sweets

Last year I got him a cast iron casserole dish and a fancy pillow, so I need to get something more exciting this year (to be fair he likes practical presents and loved both but other people definitely judged me).

probably some bits for his pc, he wants a new ssd. He’s also mentioned wanting adjustable dumbbells (expensive if the heavy ones) and also likes weekends away.

Andrasa · 26/10/2023 20:44

I got a script off Etsy for mine a few years ago of the first lotr film with replica signatures, looked really real and was a big hit!

DH wanted a bird feeding station, so I got him a nice sturdy metal one, plus the hanging things to put the food in, plus the peanuts, seeds, fat thingies, coconuts etc, plus a lockable bin to put all the food in.
No idea why - he has never been particularly interested in birds!

My DH got gifted a whiskey society membership which was fun if he's into whiskey. Or book a tasting so you can share a fun experience too?

Fiftyvines · 26/10/2023 20:53

DH birthday in November, I'm getting him a PS5.

AnotherEmma · 26/10/2023 20:53

some suggestions based on things I've given DH (or things he's given me that a DH might like)

tech:
fitness tracker or smart watch
e-reader
noise cancelling earphones/headphones

kitchen stuff:
coffee machine / coffee grinder, fancy cafetière, milk frother
bread machine

experiences:
tickets for a comedy show / concert / play / etc
wine tasting (or whisky / gin / etc) - you can get food and wine pairing evenings which we enjoyed once or twice

I often end up buying him clothes - eg cashmere jumper one year - because he doesn't buy them for himself very often. Bit of a boring pressie but he usually likes them.

Classics like aftershave, wallet, etc.

AnotherEmma · 26/10/2023 20:54

Subscriptions are good presents, too, IMO. Especially for hard-to-buy-for men!

LifesADance · 26/10/2023 21:09

This year I bought him concert tickets, a jumper, some boots and a PC game.

Over the last few years I’ve bought him tickets to see a comedian, theatre tickets, AirPods, fitness stuff, art from a local artist, a weekend bag. Also silly stuff like a mug with our pets photos on, Lego, a novelty lamp for his office.

Jericha · 26/10/2023 21:14

Weber bbq. Joint Christmas and birthday present.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/10/2023 21:26

Urgh it's DHs birthday on 1 November and we live on a small island so can't get tickets for anything, can't do "experiences", and need to ship most stuff in.
He's got top of the range gadgets, watches, phones etc. Every year I'm stumped for ideas and every year I buy him another bottle of whisky...

Would love to get him a whisky subscription but he's Scottish and we live in the Caribbean.
Might get him a whisky distillery tour when we're back in Edinburgh at Easter next year.

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/10/2023 21:35

I got mine a pair of binoculars, he didn't know he needed them, but recently we've seen a kingfisher at a local Park. So he's happy

UdderlyPumpkin · 26/10/2023 21:38

Mine has his birthday in December just to be extra difficult. I’ve used up all my good ideas early on in our relationship 😂 so far I’ve bought him the game Stray about a cat, I will get some T-shirts and some hot sauce but I have no idea for big presents. I’m hoping I will see something in the Black Friday sales

Strokethefurrywall · 26/10/2023 21:51

After being given a swift kick up the arse by this thread, I've ordered DH a supercar driving experience voucher at Ingliston track when we're back in Edinburgh at Easter!

Cheers for the nudge posters!

CountryShepherd · 26/10/2023 22:06

I'm getting DH a set of professional style kitchen knives, plus the new Terry Pratchett novel. Possibly some new silicone kitchen implements.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/10/2023 22:10

Mine has his 40th in February and he's currently ignoring it 😝. He wants a new guitar- he's never been able to afford a really good one and he's in a band so I said I'll give him £400. It feels like I should be getting him something like a keepsake but he said he'll be looking at his shiny dream guitar that I contributed towards 😍

Mumdiva99 · 26/10/2023 22:16

For your whiskey drinker what about an ice ball mold? Small and silly but impressive!!

My oh is 50 in Jan and wants an outdoor wok......more stuff for the garden!!

weegiemum · 26/10/2023 23:54

I'm thinking about Christmas for dh as his birthday isn't till April.

I've already got him whisky from a new distillery who have just released their first batch (we used to live and still have a holiday home in the area which is how we know about it). Got him the usual stocking things of socks/boxers/will get smelliest, chocolates, books. And then I just found out one of his favourite comedians is playing near to us so I'm keeping an eye on tickets being released for that.

Birthday present will be a free days away somewhere hot in the autumn.
