On the strangeness of online discussions

On mumsnet and other internet forums do you ever feel weird about rarely getting feedback on your posts? Sometimes I will take the time to type up a carefully worded post, trying to say something helpful or even something that is quite revelatory of myself and then its just there and you never know if anyone has actually read it, its not usual to get any kind of response or feedback.

When I read a thread I haven't contributed to it feels like I am reading a big conversation back and forth but in reality it is just different people saying their piece and they won't be getting much feedback or interaction either.

Its just very different to a conversation in real life where you would see a persons facial reaction to what you said or would experience a direct feedback to what you or other people have said.

I know its just the nature of online interaction but it just feels odd to me at times.

I don't think it's odd at all. Face to face real life behaviour is a world away from anonymous posts online.
