Has anyone watched this? I originally had it on in the background & got completely sucked in - had to go back & watch it properly from the beginning. I have so many more questions after watching to the end though.

Curious about people's theories - what happened to Paddy & who do you think was involved?

I was so intrigued by this show. I think fran and the Gardner for sure

Theokaycokey · 26/10/2023 21:07

Definitely Fran and Owen. Owen did it, but was inadvertently or actually encouraged by Fran. Great documentary though.

Agree with you
It was a shocker in so many ways.

I had a really weird desire to move there!

AlpacaMeBags · 27/10/2023 03:30

I agree, she couldn't even keep a straight face when talking about it!

I'd be too worried about annoying a neighbour & getting fed to the crocodile!

I noticed that she was smirking every single time. I truly believed Barry and Richard were innocent

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 27/10/2023 08:17

Definitely Fran - when she was told about the secret tape she knew what it said - very strange place - everyone seemed to have cancer.

ForfarBridie · 27/10/2023 08:19

I’ve just started watching it but I’m not sure I’ll continue. It seems very odd. Almost like a comedy but how can it be considering the subject.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 30/10/2023 00:21

For anyone interested there is also a book and a podcast. It looks to me like Owen did it, possibly with the help of someone else (the guy that lied about selling the pups, Billy?). And he probably ended up down a hole somewhere, it wouldn't be hard to lose a body in the Outback. As for them all getting cancer, I can't imagine that lot being too diligent about applying factor 50. I live in Oz and know some older people don't use sun-cream at all, and lots of them get skin cancer.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 30/10/2023 00:25

Oh and I have my doubts about Paddy being Irish. In the book they couldn't find his name on the passenger list of the boat he claimed to come over on. Also it seems he was chased out of practically every little town he lived in, so possibly his past caught up with him/ someone came after him. Unlikely though, as Larrimah is so remote any stranger would have been seen.

looking4pup · 30/10/2023 06:35

I wondered why I couldn't find a thread. I only looked in the tv section.

I've finished episode 1. I'm not sure why I looked here before I'd finished.

Assume by the comments they still don't know what happened to him?

Newtonianmechanics · 01/11/2023 22:54

The police work seems shoddy. Surely they could take it to trial.

Not seen a crazy case as this since the tiger king.

Poor baby having to grow up in the child like bickering place.

showmethegin · 02/11/2023 09:23

Absolutely fascinating watch. I used to live in a town in Oz with 9 residents so it felt very familiar, the in fighting, the characters (less murder where I was though!)

I am fascinated by the life style.
How far was your nearest supermarket?

user14699084775 · 04/11/2023 14:36

We watched last night, very reminiscent of Tiger King!
The crocodile looked very well fed…

Can’t imagine living that isolated - 19hrs to get to the shops and back!

showmethegin · 08/11/2023 10:36

@Newtonianmechanics was an 1hr20m to the nearest supermarket. The town was very very similar to Larrimah! One pub (where I worked) and a petrol station, that was it!

showmethegin · 08/11/2023 10:37

It was central NSW so practically metropolitan compared to Northern Terroitories Grin

SmokeyToo · 08/11/2023 10:49

I thought it was a great insight into remote Australia. In a typical 'Aussie larrikin' way. Kind of like Crocodile Dundee commits a murder!

And definitely Fran. Owen did the deed (or she fed him a poisoned pie and Owen cleaned up the mess). Fran was completely unhinged!

Richard was definitely sketchy, though. I don't think he murdered Paddy, but I'm pretty sure he's running from something...

How does the pub make money from 12 people?

showmethegin · 08/11/2023 20:31

Passing trade mainly. Lots of retirees in Australia buy motorhomes/campervans and travel around (grey nomads they call them!) we had powered pitches on some land over the road from the pub and 6 cabins to stay. Saying that, there would be days where we wouldn't get many people at all. We were the closest pub for farmers that lived within 45 mins of us so they would come in on the weekends sometimes.

Thank you.

TitsInAbsentia · 21/12/2023 21:48

@AlpacaMeBags thanks for posting this I watched it today - my reactions were a mixture of wtf/horror/disbelief/shedunnit! The only people I didn't suspect were the couple who seemed relatively normal and said at the end they were moving to Darwin. Even Darwin seems like the end of the world let alone living somewhere like Larrimah.

mollyfolk · 24/11/2024 23:15

Fascinating insight into that side of Australia.

Lots of alcoholism and heavy drinking going on as well with the cancer.

I thought Owen. Hard not to believe that Fran wasn't in his ear about paddy at the very least.

Most of them were fairly sketchy though. You'd have to be very tough to live out there.
