Please can we talk about gussets in women's underwear?

Wise ones of MN, please help.
I'm trying to find information about underwear structure but Google is leading me to some very, ahem, unique corners of the internet.

Basically, I've taken to wearing men's boxer shorts because I find them so much more comfortable than women's.
Men's boxers seem to have a 'flat' gusset - one piece of material which stretches all the way from front to back, like us women have in normal, retro 'granny pants'.

Women's boxers, though, seem to have a diamond-shaped piece of material sewn into the gusset area which gets stuck in the crannies of my minge I find very uncomfortable.

First question, then - is there a name for that 'flat' gusset that you get in normal knickers and men's boxers? So I know what I'm searching for!

Second question - is there anywhere that sells women's boxers with this type of 'flat' gusset (or whatever its called)?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
I just googled "Inside of women's underwear" which has not filled my evening with joy.

I have a pair of women's swimming shorts with no gusset on the inside - just the crossed seam of the shorts. They're so bloody uncomfortable.

I'm not sure what this means. I Googled crossed seam but.... cricket!?

Oh Christ, now I've found myself on transparent PVC fetish knickers in a bid to figure out what 'no gusset' means. I thought 'gusset' just meant the bit of the pants that's underneath the fanny area but I'm now guessing not, otherwise 'no gusset' would mean they'd have a gaping hole 😆

Yes, sorry, but I think it’s the terms used here that are confusing - to me at least.

gusset is (to me) the inner lining of a pair of knickers - it’s sewn in. It makes that bit of the pants double layered.

and men’s boxers are non-stretchy cotton shorts. With no gusset.

men’s trunks are jersey with a waistband - and again, no gusset but may be sewn differently?

is it womens trunk type pants you need? Have you looked at oddballs?

my daughter wears this type - like a boy short?

I read the title as 'guests' so I may bow out now.

Yikes, I just meant my swimming shorts didn't have a double layer of material at that position.

Am I the only one who finds mens underwear too thick? Knickers are way thinner. Mens don't sit comfortable at all.

Tazzzaaa · 25/10/2023 22:49

It might be worth looking at M&S, I have always found them the best place for comfortable underwear

timetorefresh · 25/10/2023 22:52

I accidentally bought a pack of m&s Granny pants once in an online shop. Never looked back, so comfy. Never considered it was in part because of the gusset shape. Now I have a drawer full of granny pants

PickAChew · 25/10/2023 22:57

Granny isn't here, too, though John Lewis' are better, these days. I do not want or need elastic cutting across the soft and tender bits of my belly.

Bohoboo · 25/10/2023 23:01

Not sure if this is useful but I can only wear seamfree underwear. Which generally means no gusset seam or extra bit of material. Seemfree might be a useful search term for boxers.
Unfortunately m and s dont sell seamfree but primark do so might be a good option for you!

Exactly my issue - I can't find what I'm looking for because I've no idea what its called and Googling doesn't help because I don't know the right words to use.

And, you're right, yes - its men's trunks I'm wearing, not boxers!

I'm after the same thing basically but not with a dick pouch.

It's actually Oddballs that I find the most uncomfortable - really tiny crotch area with added bit of material (gusset) that basically becomes one entity with my fanny flaps by the end of the day.

Well, everyday's a learning day. I couldn't find the name of gusset shapes but the link above is interesting, if you can get over their use of 'panty' (shudder).

This is fascinating, thank you. I like the idea that my minge region might be described as 'android' 😂

TBH, I'd need a good look inside the crotch area to say for sure but looks promising. The only thing is that they're quite high-legged. I like men's trunks because the cover and quite far below the bum cheek.

That's also why I don't like granny pants because there's not enough bum cheek and upper thigh coverage.

I like my trunks/boxers/pants to sit about where they do on this model.

I know exactly what you mean OP and I have actually just had a breakthrough because I have just got my first order of these
https://www.midies.co/
I think they are exactly what you're talking about.
I could post a photo of the gusset of a brand new (definitely unworn!!!) pair if you like but appreciate that might also be a bit weird

I would very, very much appreciate a picture. Thank you. This is what I've been trying to get from the internet but Googling "Picture of inside of ladies knickers" does not yield the kind of results I'm after 😳

I did think that posting pictures of what I'm after would make my thread make more sense but I don't have any brand new knickers or boxers, and posting used ones (however clean is just grim).

The site you linked to does look very much like what I'm after, thank you!

Sorry for the long link! I've just bought a second lot as I find them very comfy, and they are made from a decent, thick cotton. The downsides are that the fabric lining the gusset is white, which is rather odd in black knickers, plus they are a weird Chinese brand that may very well be made by slaves or something.

Having said that, one can question the ethics of manufacturing for every high street store and find them lacking. Considering the fucking abysmal state of M&S knickers with their thin, cheap fabric and crappy thin gussets, I figure at least these ones seem good quality and should last a while. Marks and Spencer can seriously fuck off now.

I'm also a fan of (M&S) granny knickers. All other types pale in comparison! I seem (lol) to be more aware of the edging on seamless knickers than seamed knickers?! Seamless ones feel very uncomfortable to me, but thinking of it I have larger seamless ones and they're comfy. Maybe I have a wide pelvis?

Very interesting thread though, it's difficult to find comfy knicks. Perhaps go commando sometimes. Does mean washing pants more though...
