What does your 9 year old use to wash their face?

Do they use soap and water? Face cloth? Dd usually splashes her face with soapy water in the bath and uses a face cloth but I'm wondering is it time for a proper face wash? Any recommendations appreciated.

Cerave, blemish one is drying though so get the plan foaming one.

if getting black heads can use a gentle cerave toner /cleanser

moisturise occasionally especially if skin looking dry

Flannel and soap for DDs age 11 and 9.

Bangkokbaby · 25/10/2023 21:37

I posted the same question a few weeks ago. I'm going to buy a Spots and stripes cleanser for my daughter. Their range is developed for pre teens and is really gentle.

INeedAnotherName · 25/10/2023 21:37

Soap and flannel. For me, for my mother, for my children. We/adult DD might add a light moisturiser just before bed.

Ibravedaflood · 25/10/2023 21:38

Ds 9 likes the black face wash! Gets sweaty from footy /training 5 days a week.

Itrymybestyesido · 25/10/2023 21:53

Just water. I started on cleaners for my child and it just upset the balance of their already perfect skin and so I stopped and went back to just water. Skin is perfect again.

My 11 yo ds has a shower every morning and just uses water

theduchessofspork · 25/10/2023 21:55

Unless she is getting spots gentle soap and water and a good rinse is fine

Passthecake30 · 25/10/2023 22:01

Dd 14 and ds 15 use only water and their skin is the best amongst their friends.

BCCoach · 25/10/2023 22:04

Just used shower gel during morning shower.

Spinnymop · 25/10/2023 22:07

Thanks for the replies. We'll probably stick with water then for now.

10yo and 8yo just water. I'm not suggesting products until they get issues as skin is fine at the moment

EthicalNonMahogany · 25/10/2023 22:17

hahah bugger all, he only pretends!

Mariposista · 25/10/2023 22:27

Just water and shower gel at 9 when washing in the shower. Started with very mild face washes at about 12 when skin became oilier.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/10/2023 22:35

My 10 year old is using this botanics brightening one but I use cerave and I'm going to try to get her to use that. She has some cloth pads from boots.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/10/2023 22:37

FYI just looking at the comments she has been getting pimples and quite oily skin. Out of interest she has started asking for moisturiser and I'm wondering if I should put her off

ohtobeso · 25/10/2023 22:42

@EthicalNonMahogany mine too!! I often question the magic they perform to be able to wash faces and leave a dry sink!!

superplumb · 26/10/2023 16:00

Just water and cloth. They both have lovely skin at 10 and 8. I also only use water in the morning. Double cleans at night ( me only). Seems to work.

CurlewKate · 26/10/2023 16:05

She's 9. Unless she has skin issues, what she's doing is fine.

😂

I remember my mother thanking my brother for not only cleaning the sink afterwards but also drying it AND drying the flannel so beautifully. She wondered if he could let her into the secret because she had never been able to master this particular housekeeping wizardry. His little red face was a picture 😂

Desecratedcoconut · 26/10/2023 16:14

Just water. Occasionally with a flannel.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 26/10/2023 16:17

My nearly 9 yo is still a total soap-dodger. Just water most of the time and i chuck a bar of soap his way if he gets actually muddy.

BathroomCleaner · 26/10/2023 16:31

Not speaking with experience of a child, but I would recommend just water. This is from personal experience. I had really bad acne from age 10 to 29. Awful oily skin, constant awful spots everywhere. Tried every lotion and potion. Then when covid started and I didn't need to wash face multiple times a day to get rid of oil and makeup I just used water. Skin completely cleared. No spots since. Skin not oily at all. So water all the way.
