Invisalign help !

I’m 24 hours into Invisalign and have the most dreadful headache and the headache is making me nauseous and all I can do is lie down . Ive read a lot about what to expect ( pain , day 1 regret ) but now it’s a reality I’m not sure I can put myself through this . Any helpful words or tips would be much appreciated

That doesn’t sound right. The headache might be unconnected?

iwanttohaveanap · 25/10/2023 20:02

I assumed it’s because I’m holding my jaw tight or in unnatural position because I’m getting used to feel of trays . Not consciously but I have noticed I’m doing it now and again

Have you taken anything for it? I found the first week was pretty vile but I took paracetamol when it was sore and I soon got used to it. I didn't have any headaches but it sounds like yours is tension.

You might be clenching, it will pass. The first few days are a bit brutal and then becomes second nature. I’d take some ibuprofen. Edited to add - some people don’t recommend ibuprofen while on Invisalign in case it inhibits movement. I was fine and my orthodontist was fine with it, but might be worth checking.

Also there’s Facebook groups that are quite good for the early days and advice / what to expect. Early days regret is common but usually passes.

Do they fit well?

shakeitoffsis · 25/10/2023 20:08

Completely normal. Ibuprofen and paracetamol alternated.

iwanttohaveanap · 25/10/2023 20:10

I’ve taken paracetamol but will try ibuprofen. The trays fit ok , I was surprised no problems getting them in or out but I haven’t got any attachments yet so perhaps worse to come . But this is miserable . Did any of you have headaches ?

First week is hard. But hang in there, by next week hopefully you won't even feel them in. If it persists though, definitely speak to your dentist just in case!!
Best of luck

Im on day 3 and fed up already. I hate the feel of them in my mouth and really struggle to remove them even with those plastic hooky things.

Hate the feel od my teeth when trays are out to eat due to the cement buttons things on teeth. Sides of mouth are sore, I'm slavering and spitting arghhh.

However I shall persevere as I paid a lot of money for them and am encouraged by looking ahead and seeing the trays 6 months ahead and how my teeth should look

HazardLights · 25/10/2023 20:15

I think I did the first few days. Also - can of coke or coffee can help to ease it / the headache. I actually had to make sure I wasn’t detoxing from caffeine the first few days due to the faff involved with drinking - as that gives me a wicked headache. I found ways of drinking my regular tea and coffee pretty soon!

I promise you do get used to it. I was still excited to be done, but becomes a lot more normal after a few weeks.

And yes I have a headache and jaw ache. Teeth have shifted already though as bite has changed

Lemsipper · 25/10/2023 20:17

First day made me cry it was so painful. Dose up on painkillers and gentle massage your neck, jaw and scalp using your fingers to help release the tension.

iwanttohaveanap · 25/10/2023 20:25

Sorry to hear some of you are also suffering but it’s good to not feel so alone ! Thanks for all the replies, if it wasn’t for the money I’d seriously be thinking of quitting but this has given me some moral support. Oh , and yes could also be a bit of caffeine withdrawal .

Can i ask how bad your teeth are to have this? Ive often considered this but dont know if they would be suitable for me. My teeth are straight just slightly out of line

iwanttohaveanap · 26/10/2023 07:15

My teeth are overcrowded and a couple are rotated . My bite is ok . I went for a couple of consultations with different dentists . The one I went with discussed lots of options and dentist v orthodontist etc , bite .

@NewUsernameJT mine are all skewiff but my firend had hers done with just 1 of her canines out of alignment

@iwanttohaveanap on day 4 and some how doesnt feel quite so alien in my mouth- it;s doing wonders for weightloss though as I can't snack stuff my face with biscuits

Gatekeeper · 07/11/2023 08:50

@iwanttohaveanap how are you getting on? I'm on my 3rd tray now and have got used to the feel of them in my mouth. Still lisping though!

iwanttohaveanap · 07/11/2023 17:48

@Gatekeeper I’m feeling much better and like you getting used to it . No pain since the first awful day but I have the first tray change tonight so will report back . have already lost a few pounds and drinking loads of water which I’m usually rubbish at !
quick question, should I be worried about enamel loss with all the brushing and brushing soon after eating to meet the 22 hours . Dentist didn’t give advice on this . I’m sticking to 3 meals so 3 brushes a day . And would you brush If you just wanted a cup of tea ?

OP posts:
Gatekeeper · 07/11/2023 19:44

i don't brush after a quick cup of tea otherwise I'd be on all day. I do 3 brushes aday after meals and reckon that's enough. With covid and this I've lost a stone

Gatekeeper · 07/11/2023 19:45

I should have kept my mouth shut though as this 3rd change has been unpleasant this afternoon . I feel like someone is hitting my jaw with a mallet :( and I'm trundling about with a heated up wheatpack on my face,

Fulshaw · 07/11/2023 19:48

Rinsing with mouthwash is ok as a alternative to brushing and actually if you read the booklet that comes with it, it says rinsing your mouth with water will do.

HesterLee · 07/11/2023 20:00

After eating I just used to brush my teeth with water to avoid too much toothpaste in a day.

I know this is a zombie thread but wondered how OP was getting on @iwanttohaveanap
