Somewhere quirky and not a chain or big place. Don't mind what type of food. As long as they have vegetarian options.
Thanks

Street Thai (I think it's called) somewhere down The Lanes - very nice Thai food!

PinkRoses1245 · 25/10/2023 18:17

Chilli Pickle
Curry Leaf Cafe
Mowgli
Food for friends
Terre a Terre (all veggie)
plateau
giggling squid
basketmakers arms if you want pub grub

Mouldyuck · 25/10/2023 18:18

Foodilic - near churchill square - £
Kenny's rock and roll cafe, north lanes - £
Terre à Terre is an excellent vegetarian restaurant (for a real treat) - £££.

Edit - foodilic isn't exactly 'quirky'. But it's truly excellent food for the price. And not a large chain

Mapleunicorn · 25/10/2023 18:21

64 degrees or the salt room

Mouldyuck · 25/10/2023 18:22

Oh, and
Riddle and Finn's (the lanes) - £££

PinkRoses1245 · 25/10/2023 18:22

oh and a new place Embers but I don’t know what the veggie options are like as it’s focused on fire cooking

criminallyvulgar · 25/10/2023 18:23

Burnt Orange is fab and has a vegetarian sharing menu

Helenahandkart · 25/10/2023 18:24

Boy-Banes. Time it right and a woman with a goldfish bowl on her head will sing for you as you eat sausage and mash from a spinning table. Not open every day but definitely worth a visit.

Inthepark · 25/10/2023 18:25

Street Thai is closed.

La Choza (Mexican)
Cin Cin
64 Degrees
The Set (really special)
Bom Banes if you want really quirky - Jane Bom Bane will wear hats and sing fo r you all!

Helenahandkart · 25/10/2023 18:25

Iydea has excellent veggie food. Only open during the day.

sablesong · 25/10/2023 18:25

I really love Planet India for quirky vegetarian food and vibe. Just make sure you have the starter that everyone goes for - dhai bhel puri! so delish.

I’d be cautious about Foodilic. I’ve had food poisoning twice after eating there. It’s self service, and I once saw a customer drop the tongs on the wet dirty floor where everyone had walked in off the rainy street, and then replace them in the bowl. Shame, as the food is good, but not worth the risk imo.

They moved location. It's not self service anymore

La choza (mexican street food with great reviews)
Riddle and Rye Seafood (located in the Lines and also on the beach
Shelter Hall (selection of great street food concessions under one roof with live music).

Back when I lived in Brighton I used to go here. It was about 25 years ago when being vegi was unusual. https://www.wkmk.co.uk/

Also the soul food place that was on Ramsey's nightmares. He loved the food but the issue was with her organisational skills. Years later and it's doing very well. Forgotten the name of it.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/10/2023 18:34

Botanique in Hove is incredible....technically not Brighton but walkable.

It is entirely vegan. I'm not vegan but with food like that, could easily be converted!!!

I meant Riddle and Finn's, not Riddle and Rye!

Samsonsmum · 25/10/2023 18:36

Chickini Church Rd - Korean Fried Chicken

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 25/10/2023 18:40

Another vote for Terre a Terre - my absolute favourite restaurant. The food is so good it will make you laugh.

treenu · 25/10/2023 18:42

The vegetarian food at burnt orange was amazing. The miso aubergine is the best thing I've eaten in months!

Helenahandkart · 25/10/2023 18:44

Mouldyuck · 25/10/2023 18:30

In which case I’ll give it another go. Thanks!
The tongs+floor dirt+food poisoning incident was a sad day.

User0000009 · 25/10/2023 18:47

The Chilli Pickle is amazing. Also love The Ivy x

CherryMyBrandy · 25/10/2023 18:48

I hate Terre a Terre. Nothing makes sense in the menu (and I'm quite a "foodie"!). And the last time I was there it wasn't v nice tbh.

I would very much recommend Chilli Pickle, Curry Leaf Cafe and Iydea. All amazing.

Curry Leaf Cafe is tiny and does have mixed sex tiny toilets though (well one toilet with urinals and one without so two toilets for men really and one toilet for both men and women!). The last time I was in there there was a man in there and it made me a bit uncomfortable tbh (it was so tight for space we were squeezing past each other and he was big and built!). if that doesn't bother you, the food is amazeballs!
