Severe anemia am I going to die?

So I’ve posted on general health and on chat but had no responses and I am genuinely worried I am going to die and am probably being overdramatic but need a good head wobble please…

I have had a SeHCAT bile study and the results of 7 days was 4% I am massively anaemic hb is currently 86 and ferritin is 5 are these linked at all? By hb and ferritin has been lower but I had an iron transfusion 18 weeks ago. My endoscopy and colonoscopy have found about 6 angioecstasia so far and I need a further for the top part of my colon. anyone have any ideas if all this is linked or are they seperate? I have constant diarrhoea and can barely eat even when I’m hungry a few bites and I’m full. GP and hospital pass me round like a hot potato I just want/need some help of a diagnosis or ideas of what it could be so I can rule things out.

The above was written 2 weeks ago my hb is currently 77 and my ferritin is 5 I feel like death warmed up but the gp has said as I’m coping I should wait for the referral (that they didn’t send 2 weeks ago and have only resent today) I am working with 2 kids and masking well as I’ve been anemic for about 4 years but I’m sick of the constant being passed around and no real diagnosis I’ll have an iron transfusion and normally last 6 months before being this low and need a new one anyone have any advice or do I just need to carry on as it’s only low iron.

I passed out beginning of august and needed 9 stitches and have constant Diarrhoea which I think is also a problem and piles that bleed constantly. I am under gastroenterology and been referred for genetic testing but no one tells me anything. Sorry for the essay I just don’t really know what else to do.

I’m sorry, this sounds horrible to deal with. I hope you get some relief from your transfusion and hopefully, at some point, find the root cause.

Your life isn't at risk otherwise they'd be talking about a blood transfusion and urgently.

When is your next gastroenterology appointment?

Gosh poor you op, I had similar numbers to you once due to coeliac disease. I felt horrendous, like I was dragging myself about and might collapse. I hope they can sort things for you. Are you just having infusions or oral iron as well?

katystar · 25/10/2023 18:08

@user1846385927482658 No idea I’ve had a letter and will get a call at some point I hope! My HB is 77 and ferritin is 5. I’m not sure I can wait another 2 years for gastronomy to get back in touch. I’ve been having iron transfusions every 6-8 months and they work but can’t seem to get one even though my numbers are so low. I’m fighting everyone and just would like any clues on what could be actually wrong. A and e I’ve been and and been told to wait for the gp referral that never happens.

@goblininthecanteen iron orally as well and it’s not helping.

What action it being taken to investigate why you are not absorbing iron?

PinkNailpolish · 25/10/2023 18:15

Not eating enough calories won't be helping either. Can you get hold of some Ensure Plus drinks? You really need the nutrients. Maybe you could have an Ensure whenever you don't fancy a meal or you only eat a few bites. Are you eating enough iron containing foods (and the right portion size too)? Have you been tested for Chrons if you have blood in your poo?

katystar · 25/10/2023 18:17

@PinkNailpolish I have had loads of tests but can’t get an actual diagnosis. I try and eat but struggle. I will try and get some ensure drinks.

@Autumcolors ive had a colonoscopy and endoscopy plus a SeHCat test loads of blood tests. I go round in circles I’ve been referred for genetic panel testing.

would a private consultation be an option for you OP? just so you know the current guidelines are not to transfused above 70 unless there are other underlying conditions.

you need to rest though and you can't strain yourself. I've had to live with very low hbs due to kidney failure and I know it feels horrible. if you start getting chest pain and/or shortness of breath with mild exertion, you should go to a&e because you may need a transfusion

really you need an urgent referral if you can't go private.
