One day (Friday) Liverpool to Bath, where would you take kids?

Hi all, this is the kind of thing I love mumsnetters for so please help me out.

Off the ferry in Birkenhead at 6.30am for half term with 10 and 7 year old.

Picking DH up in Bath at 6.30 pm, then staying in Frome.

I have to be stopped from 10.20 to 11am somewhere to have parent teacher meetings but in my dreams that is in a nice location not a Little Chef off the motorway (although that would be fine too I suppose).

I am, like everyone, enjoying the CoL crisis so while I don't mind spending some money, it's more good hearty outdoorsy fun with a premade picnic and snacks from Lidl than insane expenditure if you see what I mean.

I have National Trust membership. I love NT but the kids are at a 'oh no not another old building' age. Conversely they loved Chatsworth as it was so well set up for kids.

Where should I stop en route? I LOVE England, I love cute old towns, the beautiful countryside. I lived in England for years and used to know Bristol and Bath reasonably well.

Was thinking getting to Bath around lunch time and taking kids to the Roman baths? Would they enjoy that? Any recommendations of where to take them for early dinner like pizza?

Give me your western corridor of England advice.

Victoria park in bath is a great place for a picnic and to run off steam. Equipment for big and small kids, and not too far from the train station.

Roman baths are cool, and there are usually good quality buskers or Street performers in the square. There's a fudge shop there where the kids can watch it being made and get a small sample of the best fudge in bath.

Not so up on somewhere to eat, but I'm sure someone else can do that bit for you. 😉

Those are fab recommendations thank you, esp the fudge (I like to hit up something cultural with the promise of a treat afterwards to pull out if 'i'm borrrred' kicks in).

Any recommendations for a good NT visit somewhere down the M6 are welcome. Or any especially nice places to visit? Tewkesbury? Cheltenham? Stroud? Gloucester?

Sorry @Mabelface not expecting you to have the suggestions for the town/NT place, just throwing it open to the crowd!

Chedworth Roman villa is NT, and really good plus space to stretch your legs. Keeps the Roman theme going en route to Bath. Better in good weather. 11 miles into the Cotswolds off the M5, so adds a bit onto your journey.

Or Gloucester Cathedral has some Harry Potter links if I remember correctly, and the docks are fun to wander around. You'd have to find a cafe for your meetings.
