Super power I do not have do NOT want but my family appear to think I have

NO dh and dd I do NOT magically know that we are out of washing up liquid when it is not put on the shopping list when you took the last one.
I am not magically aware that we have no bread because you used the last for toast.
I do not know we are out of Branston pickle (that I don't eat or like!) Same for baked beans.

It is not a superpower I have IF I could get a superpower it is NOT one that would be in the top 5 of superpowers I would WANT. And NO! we did NOT get any of the above in the shopping yesterday BECAUSE YOU DID NOT ADD IT TO THE SHOPPING LIST.

Also, they are BOTH adults so not like this will come as a surprise yet it appears to do so each time.

Does anyone else have superpowers in their families' eyes you don't have and never want?

Yes Im ranting yes Im aware there are worse things in life but this is chat not AIBU...

Maybe ask them do the shopping from now on?

Hottytotty · 23/10/2023 18:08

Finding things 🙄🙄🙄

Riverlee · 23/10/2023 18:08

I have the superpower of being able to see the tomato sauce, lettuce or whatever in the fridge, as they are invisible to dh and dc.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/10/2023 18:09

Why you are allowing them to get away with this shit is beyond me. I'd be telling them very clearly that if they want something, they can get it and to never bother me about it again. You are not their bloody PA.

Hottytotty · 23/10/2023 18:09

Posted too soon - basically no one ever bothers looking for things and yells for me when whatever they’re looking for is sitting right under their nose…

Ylvamoon · 23/10/2023 18:09

You clearly have misplaced your crystal ball 🔮 .... off you go and either find it or buy a new one- NOW!!

Gimmemoreherbivore · 23/10/2023 18:10

Only I have the code to the dishwasher, no one else can open it and put stuff in so they just leave their dishes and cups next to it!

They have been told. Like I said I was ranting. The natural consequence is that we do not have it.

Apparently I am the only person in our house of otherwise competent professional adults who speaks the secret language spoken only by mystical butter-selling fairies and am, therefore, the only person who can buy it.

I don't even really eat butter...

loseweightpleasegod · 23/10/2023 18:14

I got so fed up of this I made sure we moved to a house that was in walking distance of shops. Money is always available in the kitchen for anyone to do a top up shop. Saved my sanity.

UnevenBalance · 23/10/2023 18:41

Oh I get you!

Even worse is when one of them uses the last of a common item (like a spice/rice/ etc…) and I’m the person who realises we have run out when I’m trying to cook.

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/10/2023 18:44

I assume my husband has magic shoe finding abilities because he does find my missing shoes all the time. I do try not to abuse this.

He thinks there is a magic towel washing fairy and I put up with this because he has superhero levels of spider catching abilities.

sockarefootwear · 23/10/2023 18:45

I have a similar issue with ketchup. I never use it, but my teens like it with almost every meal. Teens are also tasked with clearing the table after meals (since I cook them etc). Even if the bottle is empty it will be put back in the fridge after the meal (I assume because this is marginally closer to the table than the bin). Yet they expect me to realise that we are out and buy more. They will often moan that 'There's never any ketchup in this house'. This is discussed with them frequently. Before anyone suggests it, I have tried buying more than one bottle but they always find it and open a new one before it is needed, so we end up with 2 bottles in use and both being returned empty.

If I could order a superpower 'Knowing when the ketchup is used' would not be it!

BoohooWoohoo · 23/10/2023 18:46

I have that problem too. Apparently I should have known that ds used the last of the ketchup yesterday. He's 17, on half term and walked to the bloody Co-op earlier today so could have bought some then. Good news is I don't use ketchup so it doesn't inconvenience me in the slightest.

Labradoodlie · 23/10/2023 18:49

Im told I have this power regularly.

Actually we have a shared iPhone list that DH could add to. He doesn’t, so we just eat the food I like. Shame.

NotFastButFurious · 23/10/2023 21:46

I’m surprised they haven’t started calling me Alexa because seemingly I’m the only person who can look things up on google.
