I've suddenly realised what a lot of lovely things I have coming up in my life. It's strange that sometimes in real life you don't want to come across as bragging about things in case people are resentful for or jealous, but I'm currently enjoying the anticipation and excitement.

I've got a first time abroad family holiday coming up, followed by a child's birthday, bonfire night which I love, then the run up to Christmas, a family party and obviously Christmas. A good friend is getting married next year, so I'm looking forward to being invited to a hen do and hopefully a wedding. I've also got friends with house move plans afoot which will bring them much happiness and I'm really excited for them.

I wondered what other people are planning that makes them smile?

Halloween & bonfire night, then Christmas & New years of course, my 4 favourite days of the year, I have traditions every year on bonfire night so that's the next one I'm most looking forward to, I'm off on all 4 this year so making the most of it as next year will likely be working those dates and it will be challenging but I still plan on making them special. My parents are visiting in early December, I also have a tattoo booked for next week which I'm excited for

Katherineryan · 23/10/2023 17:31

My first grandchild being born this week (hopefully)
and then a week’s holiday to the Canaries in December

80skid · 23/10/2023 18:29

Oh wow, having all the special days off is a brilliant one, as is a new tattoo!!! Very exciting.

And a grandchild! That must be very exciting too, I'm sending vibes for an uncomplicated birth and recovery for all concerned 😍

Getting established on new medication to manage a chronic condition - I am currently in a lot of pain.Sad

DH finally having an eye test tomorrow and agreeing he will try varifocals - I am fed up of the multiple pairs of Pound Shop reading glasses lying around the house.

Holiday to Goa in January.

weegiemum · 23/10/2023 22:28

I'm really looking forward to November, when dh and I are going to our holiday home for 2 weeks, just the 2 of us. Dc are all grown up enough to be working so no need to take them (though we did offer!) and we're so excited about being just the 2 of us in that house, which we bought as the family home many years ago. We now live elsewhere for work/dc but will go back to that rural area to retire.

StarDolphins · 23/10/2023 22:31

I’m most looking forward to panto, I really enjoy going with my DD every Christmas Eve.

Then I’m looking forward to not working at Christmas & eating & drinking lots!

DilemmaDelilah · 23/10/2023 23:13

Taking my two eldest grandsons to the theatre on Wednesday - I haven't seen them for months.
Seeing my youngest daughter and her baby when they come to stay for a few days next Thursday week.
In a funny way - starting radiotherapy on Wednesday week - it's another step towards the end of my treatment and being cancer-free hopefully
My birthday on 8th November
Christmas!
Going on a day's cookery course in February
Going to see family in Kent in February
Going to see Bill Bailey perform for the third time in February
Lots of things to look forward to!

My baby being born in a couple of days!

That’s so exciting! Hope all goes well. Boy or girl?

Mydogisagentleman · 24/10/2023 05:31

Going to see our DD and her partner today when I finish working. Me and the dog and a 3 hour drive. H is staying at home.
Booked for Rhod Gilbert yesterday.
Booking a flight to NY with DD for May when she finishes university.

Mydogisamentalist · 24/10/2023 06:06

My birthday this weekend! I’m spending the day with dc eating cake and then the following day I’m going away for a night with a spa trip and shopping. I’m so excited.

Halloween, the kids are excited to go trick or treating. Where I live goes all out, 90% of the houses on the estate are decorated already. They are practically counting down the days.

Bonfire night, didn’t used to love this one but my daughter has autism and severe mental impairment. She LOVES fireworks. They bring her so much joy and I can’t wait to see her face when she realises she gets to watch them again!

Then we have lots planned throughout December. We are going to Disneyland Paris for a few days. The kids first time on a plane and I'm both terrified and excited. We have the pantomime booked and a breakfast with Santa sorted. Obviously Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be looked forward to.

This thread has made me realise that I really don’t look forward to things. I’m always afraid I will jinx something if I look forward to it. 😳

PermanentTemporary · 24/10/2023 07:11

Loveky thread, much needed today, thank you!

I'm looking forward to seeing my Mum this weekend (unusual as I usually find it very hard visiting her in her care home, but it's better recently). And dp will be moving in with me soon, so looking forward to that. And going to Spain in January.

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/10/2023 07:19

I start a new job next week which I’m very excited about, and I love this time of year so looking forward to Halloween, bonfire night and the run into Christmas and have lots of things planned with the kids. I have a few days booked away with a friend in April.

There are lots of things in my life to look forward to - like @Stresa22 i can forget to let myself be excited because I’m worried something will come along and spoil things but I try to remind myself to enjoy the anticipation more.

Crispytowels · 24/10/2023 09:32

Lots to look forward to if I think about it so thank you for starting this thread!

Dsis working in town for a couple of days so staying with me- we might even go to bingo which we haven’t done in years.

Holiday to Egypt in 3 weeks with same dsis and our DPs.

Same day off as DP today (rare).

riotlady · 24/10/2023 15:10

Oooh it’s half term next week so looking forward to hanging out with DD and not having to get out the door for the school run! We’re going pumpkin picking and I’ve got baby DS a pumpkin costume and planning to take lots of cute pictures. I’m also taking DD out for a girly shopping day just the two of us.

Then it’s my birthday and I’m going to bottomless brunch with my two best friends. DS is getting his casts off soon (he’s been in them since he was 3 weeks old, to correct his talipes) so that means he can start having baths and we can go swimming as a family. I’m looking forward to Christmas and all the run-up and preparations. Lots of stuff!

Finallybreathe · 24/10/2023 23:04

Australia in February! I booked it in February this year and it’s coming by so quickly!

I kind of know what you mean there. I've always had a thing where if I can't visualise something clearly, I don't believe it will happen. I guess I've been let down a fair few times over the years, so have been wary of looking forward to things too much to avoid disappointment if they don't happen.

It's lovely to see lots of things people are looking forward to. Big, expensive, free, humble and all sorts in between. Whatever's troubling you in life, it's good to have something that makes you smile in anticipation.

I’m planning a holiday to Iceland, I want to see The Northern Lights and have found a company who offer a free return cruise if they don’t appear on the one you book.

pennyfest · 27/10/2023 21:48

I'm getting married! No plans made yet really just ideas, and I'm more nervous than excited about the wedding itself, but I am looking forward to actually being married.

Birchvalley · 28/10/2023 08:58

@Bedazzling what company is that?
I’d love to see the Northern lights!

Bedazzling · 28/10/2023 10:06

@Birchvalley called Hurtigruten, I tried posting a link but it took up so many rows. It’s not every trip but some have that promise, a 12 day trip is 2.5k per person but that’s Norway and not Iceland, so an error on my part.

Birchvalley · 28/10/2023 11:52

Thanks @Bedazzling
Northern lights are on my bucket list!
