To ask what you would take to mean by this

On a camping trip.Someone needed to use the toilet but couldn’t as there wasn’t a toilet available. They said to the person that they were with this is making me too uncomfortable to sleep. The other person then said I know but it’s only a few more minutes. I don’t really understand what I know means.

I have read this three times and I still don't know what you mean. You might need to explain more.

Thehonestybox · 22/10/2023 23:17

It's only a few more minutes until the person in the toilet will be finished in the toilet...

OzziePopPop · 22/10/2023 23:20

On a camping trip surely the answer is to go pee au natural?

if there’s another need for the loo, I guess you do have to wait! Or travel to somewhere with a loo? You’re an adult surely, you can control yourself or sort it out without help?

Cumbrianlife · 22/10/2023 23:22

Eh?

macandcheeses · 22/10/2023 23:26

I don’t really understand what I know means.

'I know' means the person is aware.

Boomboom22 · 22/10/2023 23:27

It's what anyone would say, they get that it is unbearable but there is no choice. What is the issue?

SleepingStandingUp · 22/10/2023 23:29

I know waiting for the loo is too uncomfortable to sleep, it'll only be a few minutes until the toilet is available.

Basic empathy.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/10/2023 23:30

I’m so confused. 🤨

We can surely all relate to the feeling desperate for the toilet but having to wait. That’s what the ‘I know’ was referring to, surely?

FijiSea · 22/10/2023 23:31

Just go outside and pee.
If you are not on a campsite and are wilderness camping this is fine
If you do not need a pee then there are other arrangements to make , take a spade etc.
But you cannot hold it in all night .

BrimfulOfMash · 22/10/2023 23:32

By ‘not available’ do you mean camping somewhere where there are no toilets?

SkaneTos · 22/10/2023 23:33

We can all relate to needing to use the toilet, of course!

The person who needed to use the toilet was probably too uncomfortable to sleep, since they needed to use the toilet.
That person could choose between waiting until the toilet was available, or go out in the woods/wilderness and use the natural "toilet" there.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/10/2023 23:35

Are you that poster that always used to come on late at night asking what basic interactions and conversations meant? You're ringing a bell.

I presume the person needing the toilet was able to go when it was free and thats what it meant?

CheshireCat1 · 22/10/2023 23:36

It means they understand how you are feeling but the toilet will be free in a few minutes.

Nicole1111 · 22/10/2023 23:43

I know you’re uncomfortable

0ElectronBlue0 · 22/10/2023 23:46

I know it’s not ideal but hold on and it’ll be fine.

Tinkerbyebye · 23/10/2023 01:05

they are saying they know it’s to uncomfortable to sleep, but it’s only a few more minutes to the toilet being free

INeedAnotherName · 23/10/2023 01:08

I know = I understand. It means they understand you are feeling uncomfortable and can't sleep.

GreyCarpet · 23/10/2023 06:53

What did yulou take it to mean, OP? Be ause it doesn't sound like a confusing conversation I'd need to post on MN about.

As others have said, the loo would become available in a few minutes? Or you'd woken them up/they were very tired/drunk and so weren't really making much sense and it meant nothing.

In future, just ask, 'What do you mean?" So they can explain. Rather than saying nothing and expecting strangers to guess the answer.

This ^^

I reply to my kids messages all the time with ‘I know, but ….’ Usually when they are complaining about something I can’t change. Like the bus being late, or it’s raining and they haven’t taken a coat but I’m at work.
