Would you go on a work trip tomorrow with these symptoms?

I have a work trip tomorrow to a European city - think Berlin/Paris/Madrid. It's not absolutely vital that I go, but I am senior and have some equipment for the event that's not vital, but that we have bought for ~£500 and would be useful. It's part of a project that we're coordinating. Other colleagues are travelling in the morning from different areas of the country, no opportunity for them to take the stuff.

About 10 days ago, I had a severe burning pain in my stomach, took Nexium from the pharmacist, symptoms disappeared, all good.

I woke up about 5am with the most excruciating pain, same thing, but much worse. Took some more Nexium, and Gaviscon, and Rennie, no better. Was getting more & more painful, called 111, prescription some sort of super omeprazole. Took one of the new tablets, pain got even worse, then was sick, traces of blood in the sick. Called 111 back, GP is calling me back 'within 2 hours' - this was about 4pm.

Have just been to bed and slept for 2 hours. Not been sick again and pain is there, but significantly 'less bad.' - What would you do?

Don't go. You don't want to end up suffering and needing treatment abroad. Sounds awful by the way!

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/10/2023 18:13

See what the GP says and make a decision based on their advice.

I wouldn’t go no, especially with the traces of blood. Possibly an ulcer ? Do you have a follow up appointment?

I'd see what the dr says but I'd be leaning towards no. You don't want to be abroad and needing to speak to a dr/get medical help.

How long are you going for?

amiboverd · 22/10/2023 18:42

Sounds like you're not well enough!

custardlover · 22/10/2023 18:46

Definitely not. Sorry to hear this and hope you feel better soon.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 22/10/2023 18:48

Do you really need to ask?

If a doctor wants to see you quickly, it's for a reason. There is obviously something wrong and your health is worth a thousand times more than any job.

LegendsBeyond · 22/10/2023 18:50

No way. That could be quite serious. You need to be home and resting.

SoddingWeddings · 22/10/2023 18:53

I would not be going.

TokyoSushi · 22/10/2023 19:14

Ah, I'm only there until Wednesday, 111 still haven't called back, I'm very much a 'carry on it'll all be fine' person, but maybe not!

Check your travel insurance will still cover you for this now you've sought medical attention. Most of them want you to declare every time you've sneezed in the past 10 years.
