Youtube issue - no option ANYWHERE to log out! Any help appreciated!

Three days ago I started getting messages on Youtube saying "we've detected an adblocker" and a message saying adblockers are a violation of Youtube policy. However, I found that I could just close that box and continue. Today, I can't play any Youtube content and I don't even get the message giving me the option to allow ads on Youtube (which I would now choose).

I decided to try and log out of you tube but I simply can't! There is no option to do so. I'm using a chromebook so am automatically logged in to my google account and this seems to automatically log me in to Youtube. Info on the net instructs me to click on my user profile and select 'log out' but that option simply isn't there, anywhere!! How can that be??

Can anyone help me out here? Any idea how to log out of Youtube if you never actually logged in ( I think Google must've done it automatically...)

Just use it in an incognito window? If you log out of Youtube you'll be logged out of all Google services.

Yes, that's an option, though I like to flick through videos alongside mumsnetting and on my computer, that makes things a bit less smooth.

Re logging out of Youtube - I can't anyway! It seems so odd that there's no option to log out. Perhaps I don't understand how they're all connected. And why I've been watching Youtube for literally YEARS with adblockers on and only now it's an issue!

If I go to you tube on the desktop and click the letter of my name in the top right hand corner, the fourth option is to sign out.

@AlisonDonut - Yes, that's exactly where I'd expect it to be, but there is literally no option to sign out. None. I've even gone into settings and manage account but nothing at all. There's my profile with email beneath then "manage your google account" then 'create a channel/youtube studio/switch account/manage account' - then other stuff but nothing about logging out at all.

Can you clear all cookies, that might kick you out.

TheOccupier · 22/10/2023 14:24

Just had a look - if you click "switch account" then "sign out" is in the following menu.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 22/10/2023 15:08

@TheOccupier - Thank you - you're fab for finding that 🤗but unfortunately it doesn't work. I click sign out but then when I go back to Youtube, I'm still signed in!! It takes me to 'Sue's accounts' (not my name) and I can't click back so just open another youtube tab and I'm signed in!

This is what I see after clicking 'sign out'. You'd think there'd be a 'sign in' if it had worked. Like I say, I go to Youtube and I'm signed in again. Sigh.

Delete your browser history, clear cookies and cache. Just be aware that will log you out of everything else too but it will definitely work.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 22/10/2023 15:37

@Cosmosforbreakfast - yes, almost did that. But because I find the automatic logging in so convenient, I hesitated! Guess I can't have everything!

Thank you.
