Silly conversation with DH about technology in the kitchen got me thinking. I want a small wall mounted scanner by the bin that we could "beep" the barcode on packaging as we chuck it away. This by the wonder of technical magical fairies would appear on my shopping list.

We have a shared grocery list currently on "To do" but that requires us to remember to add stuff.

Does such a gizmo exist?

The closest would probably be alexa and you ask for the item to be added.

We ask Alexa to add to shopping list as we throw away. Then you can access the shopping list via the Alexa app when you're in the supermarket

Hmm...we do use Alexa but she's normally playing a podcast/music etc....She gets right uppity and pretends not to understand me if I interrupt.

I'm envisaging a quick "swoop" as I pass it into the bin, not breaking stride from my domestic godess routine....

The Tesco shopping app has a scan barcode function on the search tool. That works if you leave yourself signed in on the app. Not as futuristic as your idea, but it works!

Agree with PPs, we just shout our list out to Alexa. Although our 3 year old finds it hilarious to add on things we don't need like ice cream!
