Wondering how much delivery drivers make eg Uber Eats/Deliveroo?

I just ordered a Tesco Whoosh delivery which was two bags of food which was delivered by an Uber driver within ten minutes. I was wondering how much the guy got for that. There was no way to give him a tip online and I didn’t have cash. They can’t earn much can they?

Occasionally teen dc like to get food delivered from a takeaway and that is usually someone on a motorbike. It’s always excellent service but I think it must be a thankless job.

Anybody know? Anyone a delivery driver themself?!

Wondered this myself?

I went on the Uber Eats Reddit to find out how to complain, a lot of the users are drivers, it was eye opening.

I’ve wondered as well. Occasionally I see the line up of cyclists checking their phones for available deliveries. Some of them look really young.

Not a lot. There was an article in one of the papers, maybe the guardian, about how badly they're paid and how recent changes to the app have made it even worse.

MillionDollarBill · 21/10/2023 15:33

Who pays them per hour? Or do they get paid per delivery?

They get tipped as well. I never tip, a lot of them around here have an attitude problem, I know it's a crappy paid job but don't then take it out on your customers!

DaisyDreaming · 21/10/2023 17:44

There’s videos on YouTube of Uber eats drivers. They choose their jobs and different jobs pay differently. Some jobs only pay £2 or £3, some are quick or take longer. Customers can tip

Lovethatforyouhun · 21/10/2023 17:53

Not surprisingly the super rich in that article don’t tip! Arse holes

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 21/10/2023 17:56

That Guardian article is eye opening. £44 for 12 hours work. Shocking.

And those rich fuckers ordering £££ of food, getting their company to pay and still NO tip. Cunts.

Finestreason · 21/10/2023 18:05

I read the article and it concludes with “I could vow not to use the platforms again, but who would that serve? The one thing I know is this: next time I do, inevitably, order a takeaway, I’ll remember to tip the rider.”

so I guess on balance it’s the journalist’s view that tipping is better than not using their services.

@MillionDollarBill

While it is said that they can earn well they do also say"Please note that if you do find yourself earning less than the national living wage for your age bracket Uber Eats has promised to top up your wages."

I don't know but on Uber eats app there's an option for grocery delivery. It show's local supermarkets available for delivery. But on mine we have the option of Asda Morrisons co-op's and a few smaller local shops. We do have a Tesco extra but that never comes up as an option. But there is an option to give a tip which I usually do.
