Someone has changed my number on WhatsApp?

I’ve just gone into WhatsApp and I’ve been removed from all my groups. When I click on each group a new number (that I don’t recognise) has been added seemingly in place of mine. Does this mean someone has accessed my phone (I don’t think anyone knows my phone pin but can’t be sure).

Anyone know what’s happened here please? I’m rubbish at stuff like this.

thanks.

Sounds like someone is pretending to be you with a “new number” message friends in the group and make them aware it’s not you

Thanks Mamma2017 - yes, that’s what I thought. Do you know if they would’ve had to access my phone to do that or can it somehow be done from another phone? I’m not sure if it’s dh checking up on me but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know my phone pin (unless he’s sneaked a look when I was typing it in)? Thanks.

Someone's been in your phone for that to happen in WhatsApp

Thanks Ladyj84. Bit disconcerting then!

My WhatsApp randomly removed the names of everyone in my groups this morning and just had their numbers so I couldn't tell who had sent messages. I turned my phone off and on again and it rectified itself. Maybe a bug or an update that didn't work properly?

no your phone has not necessarily been accessed. If someone messaged your contact (s) to say “hey it’s littlelucas this is my new number, please add me to WhatsApp group” the person in the group could remove your “old number “ and add new one as you to the group. But obviously someone must have your contacts numbers in the first place, could have got this from your phone or from elsewhere? Hope this makes sense. It’s possible your phone was hacked remotely. I’d forward a message to all your contacts say your phone may have been hacked and original number is the real one. Maybe call one of them and asked how they got the new fake number?
