Do you top up your perfume during the day?

Most of the women in my office add a few spritzes of various sprays throughout the day. The woman who sits behind me uses one that smells like sweets and candyfloss and I always feel like I want to lick her. (I haven't yet.)

I shower in the morning, put on deodorant and a bit of perfume and that's it. I always hear others being complemented on their smell. No one complements my smell.
Do people generally add more during the day or is this something which has just caught on in my office?
(I'm a bit socially inept)

depends on the fragrance I’m wearing, some are strong enough they last all day, if it’s a lighter one I’ll top up when I get home and change

nc14 · 21/10/2023 13:32

I do. I have atomisers that fit in my purse for all my favourite perfumes so I can ‘top up’ during the day.

Uncooperativefingers · 21/10/2023 13:33

No never, it sounds like a faff to take ot all to the office. If I'm going out in the evening, I'll usually refresh my scent then

A lady in one office i worked in used to do this approx 10yrs ago. Never seen it before or since, unless they do it in the loo. Perfume is quite personal, and it seems quite rude to me to spray it in public: what if the people next to you don't like the smell?

No never. I wear perfume but would only refresh when going out for the evening.

No a quick spray in the morning.
I prefer subtle rather than an overpowering smell.

MidnightOnceMore · 21/10/2023 13:43

What kind of hellish office is that?

Perfume mostly smells crap anyway, people imagine they smell nice wearing it but really they just smell chemically and like they're hiding bad personal hygiene.

The best smell is no discernible smell.

ElleCapitaine · 21/10/2023 13:44

My partner is really sensitive to the smell of perfume and thinks it all smells like nail polish remover so I never wear it.

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 13:46

Sometimes a tiny bit at lunch, definitive a bit more before going out.

A lot of scents really don’t last. Some do obviously, and you have to be careful not to overdo it.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/10/2023 13:46

I rarely wear it at all to be honest. I did when I was a teenager/young twenties and definitely would have taken it out with me then and drowned myself in it to boot but the older I've got (mid thirties now) the less I like being able to blatantly smell perfume on people and I don't think of it as a good thing when someone walks past and you can clearly smell a cloud of it or recognise what it is. It's a bit of an assault on the senses and comes across a bit naff to me - I'd find it a huge turnoff on a man if he reeked of aftershave.

If I were wearing it at all I'd spritz it sparingly and that be that. I don't think a compliment on a perfume is anything other than someone liking the smell of the bottle of perfume - they aren't saying the person smells good or that someone who wears nothing smells bad.

That's quite the stretch isn't it 🙄

catin8oots · 21/10/2023 13:57

I do. But only because the perfume I've been wearing for over 20 years seems to have suddenly lost its potency and wears off so quickly

Mumoftwotoddlers · 21/10/2023 14:03

I top up a couple of times a day, I find fragrances don't last very long these days, even a good quality eau de parfum doesn't last more than a few hours compared to ones I'd purchase years ago that would last all day and you could even smell it the next day if you didn't shower the evening before

caramond · 21/10/2023 14:08

Not usually. Perhaps if I'm going somewhere late and have come home in between I might add a spritz. I never take my perfume with me when I leave the house though.

Nochoiceleft · 21/10/2023 14:11

People spritzing perfume in the office really is my idea of hell. There are some people in my office that I cannot work closely with as it is. It triggers migraines for me.

Inthemane · 21/10/2023 14:12

Bear in mind that it's hard to smell your own scent, even when others can definitely smell it. Topping up perfume in the office isn't necessary IMO. Most people wear far too much because they've become nose-blind (especially post Covid). Maybe switch to a different scent?

YouJustDoYou · 21/10/2023 14:14

No. It's offensive to have to sit in someone else's cloud of smell all day long, I wouldn't subject someone else to it.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/10/2023 14:20

I only top up if I'm going out in the evening, and I'll do it at home after I get back from work. I'm not lugging my perfume bottle to work and back with me so no topping up at work.

This.

Hate the stuff

Lizzieregina · 21/10/2023 14:41

I rarely wear any nowadays because I know too many people with extreme sensitivity and I don’t want to subject them to it.

I have a few places I’ll still wear it though if I’m not going to be in a group or a crowd.

3WildOnes · 21/10/2023 14:45

I dont wear perfume to work but quite a few of the ladies in my office top up at lunchtime.

Petrine · 21/10/2023 14:46

I top up according to the longevity of the perfume I'm wearing that day. I have always loved perfume and have quite a wide collection which I use according to the plans I have for the day.

If I'm going to a doctor's appointment or anywhere enclosed with strangers I wear something soft such as A Drop D'issey edp.

AhBiscuits · 21/10/2023 16:23

I feel like I can't smell my perfume at all within minutes of putting it on. I could be noseblind or my perfume could be shit. I might treat myself to a new bottle.

It'll be you. Honestly most people who wear perfume smell very heavily of it. They just can't smell it themselves.

Noticeable perfume is such an 80s smell.
