Could I do Thailand in 10 days?

London to Ko Samui? Or realistically does it need to be two weeks minimum?

Also ideas of what to do there. Hoping for May time, a relaxing beach hotel not too far from shopping / markets etc.

What is there to do in the day? What excursions can you do in the sea?

Is it okay to not hire a car?

What kind of food is there? What does their standard breakfast taste like?

Are the drinks expensive?

Is it safe for a solo female traveller?

In the very early stages of planning this so obviously I'll research properly but would be good to get some thoughts from you guys?

Thank you

Not sure if May is monsoon season? Dec - March is usually the best time to go I think.

Coffeepot72 · 21/10/2023 12:21

It will probably be quite wet in May?

suitcaselife · 21/10/2023 12:22

Definitely don't hire a car!!

See Bangkok then travel around. Planes, boats etc. Bangkok temples, head to the ancient capital, up to the rainforests, down to beaches and islands. Two weeks would be better, yes.

Thai food is delicious and its a cheap country. There are places to suit all budgets and service is excellent.

You need to be careful but follow expected advice on solo travel. Get a lonely planet guide and start planning!

We did Phuket in 9 days

3 nights of partying
6 nights pure luxury

Didn't have a car, we went on two boat trips (James Bond island and Phi Phi)
Had bikes to ride around locally
Got taxis which were cheap

We plan on doing Koh Samui next year (Jan) with Vietnam thrown in, hopefully 2-3 weeks

I agree with PP May will be very wet

Oh okay so probably February or March then! Main question is safety really? As a woman.

We had 8 nights in Ko Samui and had a good mix of chill time as well as trips out. You can hire scooters to get around or taxi's are pretty cheap. We stayed at Baan Samui hotel in Chaweng, it was in a great location right on the best part of the beach and not too pricey. Fishermans Village night market is great and is about 15 mins drive. There are also decent markets in Chaweng and loads of bars and restaurants.

Also super safe. Violent crime is rare and the thai people are generally kind and respectful.
