Hundreds of Christians and Muslims were sheltering in Saint Porphyrius church when a missile brought down part of the complex, killing 16 people

The Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which runs the church, said many of those inside at the time were women and children, and accused Israel of targeting churches.

“The Patriarchate emphasises that targeting churches and their institutions, along with the shelters they provide to protect innocent citizens … constitutes a war crime that cannot be ignored,” it said in a statement.

This sums up exactly the situation in Gaza:
The airstrike was a reminder of what everyone in Gaza City already knew. There was no safe shelter from Israeli bombs pounding the city.

At least 4237 killed in Gaza so far. Heartbreaking. Nothing can justify this.

Did you see channel 4 news last night where they analysed the "evidence" Israel provided that they didn't bomb the hospital? Three separate independent analysis showed it was...er... questionable to say the least.

Also saw an American (not sure who he was but an expert in conflict) who stated research that showed for every civilian killed, ten terrorists are created. So not only are Israel commiting atrocities, they are also producing the next generation of Hamas thousand fold.

And no, I am not condoning the atrocities Hamas committed against innocent Israelis. Just as I cannot condone the atrocities now being committed against innocent Palastinians.

Worddance · 21/10/2023 09:00

It's an unjustified atrocity. My thoughts are with all those innocents killed, traumatised and injured on both sides.
Israel needs to stop now.

NotSuchASmugMarried · 21/10/2023 09:07

Were Hamas hiding out there? Hiding behind the skirts of Palestinian women?

Time2OpenYourEyes · 21/10/2023 10:39

@CatSpam3 Of course it was them. It's not as if they have never done it before. They have no regard whatsoever for international law and conventions when it comes to Palestinians. Awful.

Have you seen this?

They routinely murder them in their houses. This is terrible.

Yes, @Time2OpenYourEyes I have followed Israel's oppression of the Palastinians for 20 Years so nothing surprises me sadly. 20 years ago I was donating to help those who were having their homes bulldozed and look where we are now.

Pisses me off when people come into this conversation whose first knowledge is the attack by Hamas the other week without any understanding of the history (not you obvs!).

But some people will defend Israel's actions regardless of the evidence put in front of them.

Exactly my thoughts! People need to educate themselves on the topic instead of following blindly the mainstream media propaganda.

Did you read this book?

It has been written by Ilan Pappé, a Jewish Israeli academic. A must read for anyone who wants to understand what's happening right now.
