Period advice

I was on the contraceptive injection for 6 years, which stopped my periods completely. Prior to that I was on the pill on/off so my periods weren’t super regular.

I finally have a period again and have already managed to leak through the pad and every layer I had on and my bedding and mattress protector. Any advice on generally managing periods again? Best products to prevent leaks, removing stains, feeling less sluggish etc?

How old are you, are you peri menopause age ? A mirena coil should lessen/stop the bleeding.

I had a similar experience after my first period of over a year. I have PCOS so when I wasn't on the pill I didn't have any bleeding and this was my first period during my pill break after restarting the pill. I have no idea how I didn't look 8 months pregnant with the amount of blood I was storing inside me which all came out in a very short space of time. I was soaking through the heaviest flow tampons and a pad in less than an hour. This level of blood lasted about a day. However, it all settled down and now my periods are pretty standard. Hopefully you'll be the same. If it lasts too long go to the Dr.

Tips for blood on clothes and bedding are to not wash above 30 degrees because any higher than body temperature will set the blood in the fabric. And, use a bio detergent. For other areas Dr Beckman's carpet cleaner (bottle with a brush attached) is amazing.

Going forward look into menstrual cups, it may take a few months of leaks to get used to them and learn how to insert it for your specific body but it'll be worth it. They make periods a doddle. I use a cup and reusable pads for back up. The back up is not really needed but it stops me worrying.

When I did this . I got modi bodi overnight period shorts. No leaking at all for me . Then I went on to the coil and after 6 months no periods at all. Although I still wear period pants daily as they are comfy but also stop leaks when sneezing

Thanks all. Such a pain isn’t it! I’m mid 20s, just came off the contraceptive injection with the view to TTC in the future. Being on it long term, as I was, can impact fertility so I wanted to keep my options open. However I’m half tempted to go back on it after the week I’ve had!

I washed my mattress protector on the hygiene setting and the stains have now set in - oops

When you don’t have periods to deal with it really is a blessed life. I’m shocked at how tired and lethargic I feel. This whole weekend has been a write off

Also just wanted to add, it took 10 months for my period to return after stopping the injections so I’m not sure what contraception to take again
