I’ll start

hollibobs
smashed it
The gift that keeps on giving
Don’t mind if I do

All of those give me irrational rage! 😆

OP posts:

and (hand) crafted

Orangetattoo · 20/10/2023 23:15

'Belt and braces'

Describing something as 'smelly'

'ain't'

Pronouncing 'aware of' as 'aware-wov'

Iamlikesorry · 20/10/2023 23:23

I loathe 'if you know, you know' So patronising.

On marketplace 'needs a clean'. Well, you're selling it- give it a clean first!

WarmLightsAtNight · 20/10/2023 23:23

Absolutely anything to do with food.

Delicious
Mmmmm
Nom nom
Scrumptious
Get in my belly
Scrummy
Succulent

Just shut the fuck up and eat your food there's no need to have a wank over it.

Pourmeanotherwine · 20/10/2023 23:26

Nothing "makes my teeth itch", but I find the phrase " makes my teeth itch" really irritating.

Iamlikesorry · 20/10/2023 23:27

Talking about a 'space' at work, when you dont mean a physical space. Not even sure what it does mean really. Moving into whatever space = just doing something different?

Yeah, as opposed to what?

''Speaking with a god like omniscience on this....''

(Actually I do know a few men like this, one recently strongly objected to me using the term mansplaining, in fact he mansplained to me that I was thinking lazily - I just disengage after 5 mins now, nod and smile like a good woman).
FFS

I think it's often used defensively on Mumsnet. If someone says (e.g.) 'I've never seen anyone try to grope a woman on the bus' dozens of people will pile on with variations of 'that doesn't mean it never happens'.

Going forward

Furbabies

‘Lives rent free in my head’.

RabbitsRock · 21/10/2023 08:28

Curated - what’s wrong with made?!
And I cannot stand “ He/She turned around to me & said”! My friend’s Dad had a brilliant reply to that “ What are they a fuckin’ ballet dancer?”! 🤣

AGAbaker · 21/10/2023 08:54

Toxic masculinity
Misogyny (sick to the back teeth of this one)
'Super' - super quick, super fun 😫
Y'all - very American and very stupid
Pinky - when used to refer to a little finger

recyclemeagain · 21/10/2023 09:00

Narcissist and gas lighting. These are two phrases that came along with the people who like to spot red flags. Most of these people have no clue what those words mean and label every person they dislike as a gas lighting narcissist. Sometimes they're not gas lighting or a narcissist, sometimes they're just an ignorant prick.

natura · 21/10/2023 09:16

Completely irrational, but... adults using any of the following words to other adults:

Poorly
Greedy
Cuddle

Fine if you are a small child or you're talking to a small child, but between adults they make me cringe. It reminds me of couples who talk to one another in baby voices... 🤮

Actually, scratch that – even 'greedy' used to a child indicates some weird Roald Dahl-esque values system that I can't hear without feeling the speaker hasn't emotionally matured past the age of 8.

BoobyDazzler · 21/10/2023 09:19

Belly, belly ache, belly button 🤮🤮

I use tummy. The word belly makes me wince.

Tummy makes me wince!

ellyo · 21/10/2023 12:00

'Taking the piss', but especially variations of it like "extracting the urine". It's such a dreadful phrase, why would you spend time coming up with multiple ways to use it?!?

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2023 12:07

Taking the piss is an ancient phrase.

piglet81 · 21/10/2023 12:08

Pop of colour

Jellywobblescobbles · 21/10/2023 12:25

Throwaway0912 · 20/10/2023 22:22

Brought, when you mean bought. Where did you bring it from?!

Things that should plural but referred to as singular. "A red lip" "Worn with a black shoe and drainpipe trouser" LipS, shoeS...fucking TROUSERS sweet Jesus.

The sudden use of the word aesthetic, bloody everywhere. 99% of the time used entirely incorrectly.

Yep that word as if everything in ones home needs to be aesthetic! That and bloody "wholesome" - just stupid

natura · 21/10/2023 12:26

IDriveMySupernova · 21/10/2023 11:53

Tummy makes me wince!

Ooft, me too. Add to the other list of 'words not to be used past the age of 8'

banjaxedeejit · 21/10/2023 16:12

Unalive

MadamVastra · 21/10/2023 16:18

Weaponised incompetence

which to be fair I have only heard on here, and only in the last few days
but it annoys me. Probably irrationally.

ick and grim I don't like either

muddyford · 21/10/2023 16:19

Reached out - instead of contacted.
There was a poster last week who used it over a dozen times in her OP.

Smashed it - I can't even express how ghastly this one is.

muddyford · 21/10/2023 16:23

Colleague instead of member of staff is something that is almost ubiquitous in retail outlets now. Colleague? Does he work here? He was working at ABCXYZ with me yesterday.

LeonBlack · 21/10/2023 16:24

I agree with others about ‘poorly’ and ‘tummy’. Both utterly mimsy.
