Chicken pox or bed bugs

Just back from a trip to London a couple of days ago. 7yo ds has come out in these spots. He says they're not itchy. I remember being very itchy when I had chicken pox. I wonder if it's bed bug bites.

I'm not sure why it says the images are sensitive- they're not.

No idea what bedbug bites look like but that looks like chicken pox to me! It usually takes a couple of days before the itch kicks in. Oat baths and Poxclin mousse were good for controlling that. Good luck!

We have had exactly the same debate in our house. Spots that look like pox in a child that has already had chicken pox. Am baffled but also wondering if some sort of viral rash given everyone I know has lurgy.

Urgh school goes back on Monday so if it's chicken pox looks like he'll be off all of next week too!

@BackAgain2023 Bed bug bites are usually in a straight line, and they are very itchy.

@Bunnycat101 that looks like the start of chickenpox?

evildan · 20/10/2023 17:26

Bedbug bites look like any other insect bite, like midges or mosquitos. What you are seeing is the body's reaction to the bite, rather than the bite itself. And they are itchy.

However not everyone reacts to bedbug bites - if you don't react they leave no mark at all.

BackAgain2023 · 20/10/2023 17:28

I know that it's the body's reaction to the bite. My question is whether these are caused by bedbugs or chicken pox.

Also if you sleep in clothing like pyjamas you'd typically see the bites in the non clothed parts like feet and ankles, wrists and hands, neck and face.

They do bite in lines but not always. Single bites are also seen.

Chicken pox .

BackAgain2023 · 20/10/2023 17:31

Would he be feeling unwell with chicken pox or do some people just get spots and nothing else?

Could be mosquito bites, it's been very mild weather in London so they are still about. I was bitten last week and caught the culprit in my room.

No one can tell you that 🙄

If the spots blister it's likely chicken pox.

If not it could be bedbugs, or any other insect, or just another type of rash.

My point was you can't really tell bedbug bites from other insect bites, the only way to conclusively tell its bedbugs is by finding one.

@Bunnycat101 a reverse google search of your pic takes you to this site, had CV19?

TerfTalking · 20/10/2023 17:47

If they blister up it’s chicken pox, I wouldn’t say
mosquitoes as they usually have a ring of white and they burn and he would likely be scratching the tops off.

i recall chicken pox itching only when the blisters burst but that was 1976 so some recollections may vary😂

Bunnycat101 · 20/10/2023 17:55

@beetr00 weirdly I was convinced the sickness I had was Covid but tested negative.

Bunnycat101 · 20/10/2023 17:57

@BackAgain2023 both of mine just had spots with chicken pox and weren’t really poorly. You can get it mildly.

Glassfullofdreams · 20/10/2023 17:58

Looks like chickenpox to me. My child has had them this week and they look exactly the same.

BackAgain2023 · 20/10/2023 18:38

God I didn't even realise you could get mosquitos in the uk 😂 we don't get them in Scotland.
I'll assume chicken pox and will keep him in this weekend to see if more appear.
