Sore throat = snoring

I have an absolutely awful sore throat, it's honestly agony. My tonsils and uvula are swollen, white spots, red raw etc. The weirdest thing is when I try and sleep, I am snoring so so badly. Like so badly I am waking myself up within 20 mins of falling asleep making this god awful sound and it feels like my throat is closing over. As soon as I wake up, and sit up, I'm fine. No breathing issues at all. I just don't know how to fix it?! I'm desperate for some sleep!!!!

I would suggest going to the gp for some penicillin

GPs don't routinely given abx for sore throats, unless it's been over 7 days and you are unwell systemically. I'm exhausted and achy but I've no fever, or anything. I'm presuming it's viral!

Are you able to sleep on your side? That might make you less likely to snore.

There’s not much to be done ime, your upper airways are narrower right now because they’re swollen which means you’ll struggle to breathe through your nose and will instead mouth breathe and snore. It’s grim, I’m sorry

Yeah that is me sleeping on my side, I've tried to sleep more upright but doesn't seem to help really. My husband isn't getting much sleep either. It's pretty wild! Hopefully won't get much worse 🙈

I'm pregnant and normally sleep on my front but have to sleep on my side. I snore now, awfully, and so badly that some mornings I wake up with an incredibly swollen uvula and throat. It was so huge a few weeks ago it was actually swollen down the back of my throat and was making me gag it was awful. The pharmacist recommended snoring nose strips and a dissolvable patch I put on the roof of my mouth every night, thankfully this has really helped, also sleeping with my head a bit elevated and making sure I'm really hydrated before bed as dehydration an make it worse

I called my gp surgery the morning I woke up with my tonsils covered in white spots. Got an appointment that day and was given penicillin for a week.
If it's that bad, it's worth a shot
