Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong will go wrong!)

Lighthearted!

Today is my uni graduation. I’ve had a power cut since 2am, that is only effecting 12 houses, and not due back on until midday. I have to be at registration at 11:30 and now can’t get ready

I recently got an M&S gift voucher from life insurance and spent it this week, my fridge is full of M&S stuff (a luxury for us!) and I’m worried it’ll all be off as the fridge is already saying it’s 10° in there 😂

These things always seem to happen to me to the point my family call me Murphy! Please share with me your Murphy’s Law examples

Muphry's law?

CesareBorgia · 20/10/2023 07:57

Is there anyone not in the 12 affected houses who has fridge space and would let you use it?

Rocksonabeach · 20/10/2023 08:09

My is too outing so will have to be very brief.

Was due on my first holiday this week in 5 years abroad. Had lined up someone to look after my pets and children was going for 3 days. It’s actually a work trip but I book a day either side to visit the city. The day before literally 12 hours before, an emergency at school with the youngest - gave my flight away and changed my name to someone else so they can go at work.

oh crap.

Never mind but no the following morning get up to drive kids to school and me to work and two flat tyres have driven over nails apparently - car in garage.

The friend that was due to come and look after children had rearranged they were coming for the day - but no they phone - they are in hospital with suspected kidney stones. I have their children now as well as my own.

My lovely 3 day break on my own - a business trip but a day either side for sightseeing has become looking after 4 kids and getting them all to and from 4 different schools with no car.

Have had a migraine for 3 days. Friend is now out, no kidney stones. Thankfully. I just feel worn out and work colleague sending lovely pictures of my city break 😱

Why can't you get ready? Cold water wash won't do you any harm.
Failing that your uni will have showers in the sports halls just get there early.
Well done on graduating.

SpookyScarySkeleton · 20/10/2023 08:16

@KateyCuckoo anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!

@CesareBorgia I don’t know anyone to ask sadly

@Rocksonabeach oh no 😩 that is a series of unfortunate events for you! And getting the pics just to rub it all in!

@SheKeepsWhisperingYourName well I could have a cold shower yes but doing my hair and stuff. The graduation isn’t near the uni so couldn’t use the showers really

It’s all lighthearted, I’m chuckling away to myself that this would happen on this day. We’ve never had a power cut here before!

Muphry's law?

Murphy's Law. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

Then there's O'Toole's Commentary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist.

Muphry’s law seldom fails to deliver either. Have a Google.

KateyCuckoo · 20/10/2023 08:44

@SpookyScarySkeleton @Kittensat36 I know what Muphry's law is, I wonder if you do.

Nannyfannybanny · 20/10/2023 08:51

It's called "sods law"

SpookyScarySkeleton · 20/10/2023 08:53

@KateyCuckoo I do now I’ve googled it realising it wasn’t a spelling mistake. I wasn’t criticising anything though so not sure I understand the relevance (but it’s been a long morning already)

@Nannyfannybanny yep same thing, just another name for it

The relevance is the irony! Sorry, I didn't mean to make your morning worse. I hope you get sorted.

SpookyScarySkeleton · 20/10/2023 09:07

@KateyCuckoo no you’ve not, my brain just isn’t working as I’ve been awake so long already! I should have clocked it 😅 I’ve been singing Ironic to myself all morning too

Where I come from it's Sod's Law! 😆

bellac11 · 20/10/2023 16:29

Sods law

This happened to me earlier, trying to pour an egg mixture into small muffin cases for savoury egg muffins, I hadnt mixed the eggs properly so the whites were long and stringy still, so once they started pouring they were unstoppable and pulling all the other stringy white bits out of the jug with them

All over the bloody place

Yes, but it's not applicable to the OP.

One is never too old to learn from a master.

Well done on graduating! If you have a warming fridge freezer, maybe try putting fridge stuff in the freezer part, it should at least take longer to go above normal fridge temp. Evict ice cubes etc to make room.
