A Flight Radar one

My husband is currently on flight CX251 from Hong Kong to Heathrow and I know I'm probably being silly but it's not following it's expected route at all.

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation but if it continues on current route it will be aiming for Syria.

With everything going on in the news just now, can someone give my head a wobble!

Probably skirting around weather.

DogInATent · 18/10/2023 22:59

You can see the track of other aircraft on the same "lane".
It's going to bend north and follow the northern Turkish coast.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 18/10/2023 22:59

I don't know what it's intended flight path was, but it still looks like it's travelling on one of the main flight corridors from East to West so I wouldn't worry too much. It hasn't suddenly changed direction or anything.

As PP says, could be avoiding weather issues.

Try not to worry. Planes change their route all the time due to weather eg. In the summer we landed at a different airport as first of all we were going round a thunderstorm and then to replenish that fuel we had to stop briefly elsewhere.

It's doing what most commercial fights have been doing for the past year or so... avoiding flying over Ukrainian airspace.

it could be a glitch on flight radar. Look at AFR185. It’s taking the same path.

GoBackToPartyCity · 18/10/2023 23:01

Or yes, avoiding Russia!

HelloVeritas · 18/10/2023 23:01

Ok thank you, hadn't considered weather - plane looks like it's heading to bloody Gaza!

He flies a lot so you'd think I'd be used to this by now.

I knew you'd all be sensible and calm me down Smile

At least I'm not the only one who tracks flights when gp is away for work (at least twice a month!)

DogInATent · 18/10/2023 23:05

Zoom the map out and look at all the other planes. You can see how they're tracking around certain areas, avoiding weather and trouble spots.

I'm not normally this bad as he's been travelling for years. Half the time I don't remember which continent he's in as he's away so often. Just feeling a bit unsettled lately x

This is nothing to worry about, my brother is a pilot and Ukrainian airspace is currently closed, it has been for ages now and so all the flights skirt round😊
