Chinese restaurant - Chinatown/ central London

Taking my teen DS to London next week and he wants to have Chinese food for lunch - ideally he’d like it to be in Chinatown but anywhere central would be fine (within 20 mins tube of Waterloo). Any recommendations? I can’t find any with great reviews and it’s making me nervous!

This gets a 1/5 on the hygiene website :O (If you mean the one on Wardour Street).

Based on the once I was there 1/5 seems generous. Greasy/sticky handrails as you enter.
That said - queues out the door last time I walked past!

Joy Kings just off Leicester Square is excellent

Wong Kei is horrendous.

Cafe TPT in Chinatown does excellent Cantonese food, though I haven’t checked the hygiene rating!
If you don’t mind going to Paddington, Pearl Liang is a fantastic dim sum restaurant.

Oh, and another vote for Mandarin Kitchen on Queensway if you like seafood.

Wong Kei for the authentic Chinatown experience. Was going there as a student to be yelled at and insulted over 30 years ago and glad to hear it hasn’t changed.

My Chinese family would recommend

Imperial China, White Bear Yard Lisle Street
Phoenix Palace,Glentworth Street (Baker Street tube)
New Fortune Cookie, Queensway

Been eating at these places for years. Consistently good food.

I love Wong Kei ! But I have to say that the best Chinese is undoubtedly Master Wei's Xi'An Cuisine - a short journey away in Bloomsbury. Have not been to Barshu but is meant to be the best of the best - though a bit expensive :)
