Shit shit shit, all my photos gone

I'm away on a city break and got a notification saying I had less than 10% left of my phone storage.

I absent-mindedly deleted what I thought were all my documents (like the documents you download from emails etc) but in fact all my photos from the last five years have gone. Disappeared without a trace.

There is no 'recently deleted' album to restore. I've restored all the documents but my photos have not reappeared.

I was not clever enough to back up online (please learn from my stupidity!!)

Are there such things as tech support shops that will help me try to recover these photos? It's the last five years of my children's lives, and all our photos of our dog as a puppy.

I can't believe I've done something so stupid without thinking 😭

Have you gone into your settings & looked for a recycle bin. When I delete photos (android) they go by default into there although they clear up available space

Recover deleted photos or videos

  1. Open Photos and tap the Albums tab.
  2. Tap the Recently Deleted album under Utilities.
  3. In iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1 or later, use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock your Recently Deleted album.
  4. Tap Select.
  5. Select the photo or video you want to keep and tap Recover. ...
  6. Tap Recover Photo to confirm.

If you have an Apple iPad or comp they may have a copy. But think both have to be connected to Wi-Fi and open so airplane your iPad before you open to see if you can save a copy

What phone have you got?

spookehtooth · 17/10/2023 22:11

If the photos are not backed up to the cloud, and safe there, keep calm and save as little new data/files to your mobile as possible, and tell us the mobile and the photo app being used. Data tend to be "lazily" deleted, which means despite being "gone" its still actually there until you overwrite it with new files. Plenty times I've recovered data I "deleted, tho not for a long time thankfully

Anything not overwritten by saving new files is recoverable with the right software.

Can you confirm what device this happened on, and if an iPhone was it connected to an iCloud account ?

Dbank · 18/10/2023 09:18

OP please respond, as a solution maybe time limited.

PurplePanther1 · 18/10/2023 09:55

In the worst case scenario that you don't retrieve them, you might find that you have sent the best of them to people on WhatsApp and can recover those by going through your WhatsApp feed, so you will still have a record of your kids early years.

OP, why post a question, and they fail to respond when people try to help you?
