Will run out of medication on holiday

It's definitely my fault for ordering too late but I've realised I'll run out of my medication -antidepressants- whilst on holiday.
I put a request in on NHS app the Friday just gone and it has still not been approved.
I rang up today and they said it would be done by the end of the day-it hasn't. If it had I would have the medication by Friday, it won't be in time now.
Receptionist said they don't issue emergency prescriptions.

I'm very nervous about running out of my meds as I get suicide ideation and heart palpitations. I have a child to look after. I'm going abroad so need to get this sorted before I go.

What can I do?
I will wait until Thursday or Friday but how can I get an emergency prescription then? I don't think my chemist will give them out, they are also pretty unhelpful! I don't have a prescription but do have the packaging and some paper slips.
Thanks.

Call your GP first thing
or
111 can do an emergency prescription for a few days meds

@LilyThePinksDealer Thanks for your reply.
Gp doesn't seem helpful.
Will 111 give an emergency prescription in this situation?

Yep, 111 issued an emergency prescription (v limited amount) for my daughter. They sent it direct to a pharmacy - not our usual one - and I went and collected it the same day.

Can you order via a private prescription online and pay for it? I've done this in the past, but not for anti depressants.

TheFallenMadonna · 16/10/2023 20:43

Caveat - it wasn't quite the same situation, and it wasn't the full prescription amount (one insulin pen rather than the usual 5) - an emergency tide-over.

Call 111. They'll either be able to get you an OOH appointment or a clinician can send a prescription to a pharmacy. It might not be your normal pharmacy though.

You can go to a pharmacy where you are on holiday if it is in the U.K.

They phoned my GP and issued an emergency prescription

ScarlettDarling · 16/10/2023 20:49

I asked a pharmacist for advice in a similar situation and they advised me that I had to ring 111. 111 were incredibly helpful and the prescription was sent to my nearest pharmacy within about ten minutes. I think you should ring them now or fist thing tomorrow and I’ll bet you have your prescription by lunchtime.

I was able to get an emergency supply with the pharmacist who usually dispensed my prescription, I ran out just before a fri/Mon bank holiday. Had to pay £8 but I'd rather that than withdrawal.

Thanks everyone this is really helpful. I appreciate all the replies.

I'm not on holiday in the UK unfortunately, I'd be less worried if so.

I'll try my GP one time, then my pharmacy then 111. I need 4 days to tide me over.
I hate how difficult it can be to get prescription medication sometimes 🙈
