Thinking of buying one and would welcome any views. Just want something safe and reliable.

DH is quite tall- are they good for a taller driver?

I don't think so. It was more brakes and something-bushes.

Ilovetea33 · 17/10/2023 17:16

I'm so sad they don't make them anymore. Just why?

Ah, well the belt is due at 10 years old. It’s a big job, about £1-1.5k at an independent depending where you are in the country. This is one of the issues with that engine. Either the belt can snap and scrap the engine or the belt degrades and the debris blocks the oil pickup, scrapping the engine. It’s not unheard of for either of this things to happen earlier than the belt change interval. Your option is to get it done or take the risk with a view to potentially scrapping the car if it fails. A family member has an 11 year old one, at present we’re playing the “cambelt bingo” game as she’d rather just replace the car if it fails.

So they can sell you a more profitable Puma instead.

DS has one, that used to be mine. We both love it and 🤞it's never been any trouble. The only thing that does worry be is round here, whenever there's a spate of car thefts it's Fiestas or Range Rovers.

Ds is 6'3" and its conformable for him and his mates in the back

I replaced my Fiesta with Puma, it's not a straight swap (they have another small hatch I think?) it's a much bigger car internally, but I love it.

I adore my old Fiesta. But read about the newer ones with the 1.0 Ecoboost engines and that will probably put you off. I wouldn’t buy one with that engine.

The Ecoboost engine problem was resolved years ago. Anything since 2014 is fine.

The chocolate cooling system was fixed, the wet belt is still an issue.

Purpleavocado · 17/10/2023 19:06

Mine is 6 years old, I love it. DH fits fine - he's 6', but it is a tight squeeze behind him on the back seat.

NutellaNut · 17/10/2023 19:32

I have a 2015 Ecoboost. Love it! Goes like a rocket and lots of space. No problems with it. My partner is 6ft 2 and loves it too and often drives it instead of his much newer and more expensive motor!

Gingerlygreen · 17/10/2023 19:36

My Mum had an automatic but found it was really slow, it was OK once it got going but pulling out of junctions into traffic was always a bit tricky.

She rarely needed to go anywhere more than a few miles away though and she liked it other than that.

greengreengrass25 · 17/10/2023 19:40

Just had my Cam belt done

Such a fab car

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/10/2023 19:50

I’ve had 2011, 16, and 19 plates and then went onto something bigger. I loved them though! Nippy little things that were comfortable and easy to park. My son is currently looking at buying one too.

We have one. DH is 6’3” and is the main driver, he loves it.

taught two DSs to drive in it.

as an aside I was in the Ford garage for a service the other day and they are still flogging the “new fiesta”. I said I was confused, weren’t they discontinued. The guy said yes but there are loads of them about to sell so there may be a deal to be had on one?

AngeloMysterioso · 17/10/2023 19:51

I’ve got a 2008 automatic fiesta. Admittedly it’s the only car I’ve ever driven as I only learnt last year, but I love it!

dylanthedragon · 17/10/2023 19:56

I've had a couple over the years and loved them.
I needed a bigger boot so moved on to the Focus but would definitely have gone back to a Fiesta in the future if they weren't being discontinued.

Ilovetea33 · 18/10/2023 01:46

I don't want a stupid Puma, it's too big. I still can't believe Ford has just given up on small cars.

Rummikub · 18/10/2023 02:01

Ha
tne same. I don’t want a stupid puma either. I hate the shape of it.

Love my fiesta though. And agree with pp they’ve discontinued it to make more profit on a misshapen puma. Yuk.

mine has 140k on the clock and im trying to figure out how long it’s got left. :(
