Urgent question - have a GP in an hour but appointment but not on record

I have quite a few health issues, mobility is very restricted and severe asthma are the ones that make going places difficult, but I have quite a few others.

I have an appointment for today, due to the GP wanting to see me for my nose, which is ulcerated, bleeding, crusting and now has holes appearing. I know what caused it, but I need the medication.

I tried a couple of pharmacists first, to avoid seeing GP, but my regular one phoned them and said I needed to be seen. The doctors surgery contacted me, saying the GP needed to see me and made an appointment for today (this was made the week before last.

They sent me a text with the time, date and name of GP I was seeing after they'd made the appointment with me.

I've just looked on Patient Access and it says I have no upcoming appointments. Maybe logic would say I should phone and query, but they have 17 people in front of me, so I'm inclined to go up there. My nose is in a terrible state and both pharmacists said it needed to be ASAP, due to the ulcers and little holes, but the surgery didn't have an appointment until today.

I have proof of my appointment via the text they sent. I cannot go up and be sent home as there are no buses there, I can't afford a taxi, it's nice enough that I can walk slowly and with two sticks, but once there I cannot walk home and back again.

Just go there - I work in a GP practice and our urgent on the day appointments don't show up on the patient record for some reason. If there has been a mix up then show the receptionist your proof when you arrive and they will most likely speak to the duty doctor and get you seen anyway

triggeringnometry · 16/10/2023 10:16

@hazelnutlatte it's not an urgent appointment, the GP told the receptionist I needed to be seen, so they phoned to arrange; this was 6th October they arranged it, but I have got the text message and it said if the time wasn't convenient to phone to rearrange, but there is no rearrangement on my records. Under consultations it shows that they sent the message. I will go up there anyway, thank you.

Just go

Patient Access doesn't seem to be updated at my surgery any more, though of course they haven't told us this

I hope it goes okay. 💐

Just go, systems don't always link up with each other and update in real time (speaking as someone who actually works to develop online clinical records systems). It wouldn't even occur to me to check, especially if I got a text.

PeakABoocha · 16/10/2023 10:34

Go and show them the text.
Yiu clearly need to be seen!

hazelnutlatte · 16/10/2023 10:43

@triggeringnometry my point was that the systems don't always link up so don't worry about it, hope your appointment goes well today

Not at my GP’s!
Exactly the same thing happened to DH and they just said it was an error and they couldn’t fit him in. Nobody was very bothered apparently it’s quite common and you just have to make another appointment.

triggeringnometry · 16/10/2023 10:49

I'm here, waiting to be seen, utterly the auto check-in screen had my details. Thank you all.

ah, that's good OP.

PeakABoocha · 16/10/2023 11:08

Perfect.
Hope your nose will be sorted soon

Nowherenew · 16/10/2023 11:13

I’m glad you went and hopefully they’ll be able to do something about your nose.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2023 11:36

I've got a hospital appointment today and my appointment also says no upcoming appointments. I'm not sure the system works that well!

TheSquareMile · 16/10/2023 11:58

Gosh, I hope that your nose gets better soon, it sounds really painful!

What do you think has caused this to happen?

triggeringnometry · 16/10/2023 16:57

@Toddlerteaplease I hope your appointment was honoured and you're OK.

@TheSquareMile Pretty sure it was the nasal steroid sprays they've been giving me, they've given me different ones and it does it with them all. I get huge polyps in my nose and cavities

They're referring me back to ENT, so hopefully it will be sorted.

Yes. It was fine. I'd had a letter so wasn't bothered..

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/10/2023 19:06

None of my hospital appointments are showing on the NHS app, it's pretty useless really

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2023 21:29

Yep completely useless. It's got nothing on mine!
