What's keeping you awake tonight?

For me it's toddler DS.
He's poorly with a fever and I finally caved and brought him into my bed (and gave him some medicine).

He's currently showing no sign of settling.
I'll be tired at work later this morning - but we'll roll with it.

Woke up for a wee now abdo pain keeping me awake.. endometriosis can do one tonight.

Have the lovely peaceful sound of my partner snoring one side, and the dog snoring on the floor on the other.

EssexMamisoa · 16/10/2023 04:03

Baby appears to be sleeping through for the first time. I however woke up for our usual bF feed, but without any post feed hormones I haven’t been able to get back to sleep!!! keeping watching baby monitor hoping she’ll wake….. crazy mum!!

Peachyscream · 16/10/2023 04:03

My house alarm will not stop beeping. It is driving me insane. The toddler has a fever and cough, hoping she settles herself, as she just won’t sleep in my bed. Autistic ds13 is awake and grumbling to himself. I got so frustrated I’ve just gone and cut all the bastard wires and removed the back up battery. The panel is dead, there is no power supply. WHY IS IT STILL BEEPING?!!
I’ve made a cuppa and about to crack open the kindle. I know I won’t be able to sleep until this beeping stops.
Also, blood sugar is running so high and my insulin isn’t working.

Sending love and hugs to everyone 💖

Had a lovely lunch party for my nieces 21st, had a few drinks and was shattered when got back home at 7pm. Went straight to bed and quickly fell asleep, awake at 11.30 wide awake and starving! Put off doing anything until after midnight then began browsing on my iPad, got up to make a sandwich ( late evening meal!) and now having a stiff gin to try to get back to sleep.

Got a removal company coming round at 11am to give me a quote for packing up my kitchen contents ready for installation of new kitchen so need to get some more sleep. I’m disabled so cannot do it myself and am getting very anxious about the upheaval of the next four weeks which I’d adding to my insomnia.

Username620 · 16/10/2023 04:07

Fell asleep just after 19:00 and woke up at 01:30. Can’t get back to sleep so have decided to start WFH and potter around the house. Doing laundry and stuff.

rtab89 · 16/10/2023 04:09

Holding my 3 week old DD post-fed and wondering if she's asleep enough to put her down! So tired but also enjoying her little snufflings 🥰

lljkk · 16/10/2023 04:12

I wake up repeatedly most nights.
I looked up something on Internet that I needed to know & didn't want to forget to check. So that got me on laptop.
And being awake at 4am is very boring so I browsed here...
Should really try to sleep again, now!

Sending healing, vibes and thoughts to all ❤️, I had bariatric surgery a week ago, so I'm, sore and a bit dehydrated, cos I can't get enough fluids in, can't sleep laid down either, yet. Hopefully show some improvement this week, as I still feel very tired and weak.

Longtallsally39 · 16/10/2023 04:23

My 19 year old DS is in hospital after having major surgery for a twisted small bowel. Ongoing bowel issues for years, he’s had lots of operations and has a permanent ileostomy as large bowel removed 3 years ago -but first time he’s been in hospital as an adult , so I can’t stay with him. He has high functioning autism as well and gets very anxious. Worrying like mad myself!

Potatomashed · 16/10/2023 04:24

@EssexMamisoa i remember those days, I would try and feed sometimes and be so disappointed when baby wouldn’t feed!

I’m awake because I’m heavily pregnant, woke for a wee and then started worrying about when the baby will arrive and if it will be before family all arrive to celebrate my eldest’s birthday. Send birthy vibes please!

JuniperAndTonic · 16/10/2023 04:28

I’m also up with my poorly little girl, she’s 1. We’re now a week in to this virus, thankfully the ridiculously high fevers have settled but she’s still waking up screaming. Just given her calpol and she’s finally back to sleep. Might get another half hour of sleep before I have to get up for work but I doubt it 😴

(Covid + Israel) x Grief + big spider + hunger = WIDE AWAKE

Ramalangadingdong · 16/10/2023 04:32

Got a lot on my mind. Feeling wrung out because I have been doing a lot of caring. And feeling sorry for myself because it feels as though no one cares for me. Have been summoned to a work meeting and have a feeling it is going to be bad news.

I'm working a Night Shift. Cold and tired.

wobblyweasel · 16/10/2023 04:40

Seeing DH off for 9 days working away from home, and then the dog decided he needed a wee! Now curled up with the dog snoring his head off, and I can't get back to sleep.

Myneedycat · 16/10/2023 04:44

My laptop gave up the ghost. I got a new one and got a data transfer. Turns out something is corrupted on this new one from the old one. Arrgh! I’m going to have to take the new one back for a refund and then what do about the photos on the old one? I can’t turn it in. I’m in a panic. Only half of them are backed up because I didn’t have enough storage on the memory stick I had.

Sorrentino · 16/10/2023 05:06

11 weeks pregnant, woke up to pee 2 hours ago and couldn’t get back to sleep. Had a bout of nausea a half hour ago and came up to the kitchen for a few chocolate chip biscuits to find there’s only one left in the new box that arrived Saturday! 😡

DW and I live with her mother who’s been away since Friday and back this evening but is a snack monster and will binge on anything without notice or telling anyone she has finished something. The biscuits are the only ones in the house I can eat bec of a dietary allergy and the only thing that seems to stamp out my morning sickness (which my MIL knows) I know it’s antisocial to have personal snacks in the common areas but because of DW’s and my allergies, MIL’s treats are not options for us, whereas she can (and does) eat anything and in quantity! I’d be fine with her eating some of the biscuits but she’s basically polished off a whole brand new box this evening and left only one biscuit!

Meanwhile MIL currently has 5x boxes of chocolate slices, 1/2 pack of dk choc hobnobs, 1/2 pack shortbread and a new box of choc ginger cookies. Maybe this belongs in AIBU but I’m still hungry - having only had the one biscuit left from the brand new box that was supposed to last me all week, I’m still nauseous and now I’m so POd that I definitely can’t get back to sleep!

NoNeedToHurry · 16/10/2023 05:10

IBS. I had a burrito from Taco Bell for a far too late dinner and I am suffering for it now. I never learn 😭

jessyjo2 · 16/10/2023 05:39

Anxiety. Worried for weeks about an event today(yesterday i guess), now I cant switch off from it.

samepasswordforall1 · 16/10/2023 05:51

Rats have climbed the wall into our garden from next door where they're living under the neighbours bloody decking. Landlord refuses to remove decking ( I've asked) It's an HMO and the young people are doing all they can to get rid of the vermin and have caught some juveniles in traps. My garden is only small and I've seen about six rats at different times. So all night I've convinced myself they've got in to the house and are creeping up the stairs into my bedroom. Haven't slept properly for weeks, I'm tired and scared and grumpy

december2020 · 16/10/2023 09:10

Thinking of you all!
I hope you managed to get even the smallest of snoozes in before the alarm started.

DS's fever finally broke and he passed out for a good few hours rest.
At around 6am I had a coffee in bed while DS was still snoozing away next to me and the dog was snoring away by the foot of the bed.

Thanks @december2020 !

I finally dozed off at around 6am for a couple of hours.

As well as my audiobook and tea, I used my night time to make a couple of loaves of bread and put on some laundry, so not completely wasted!

I also hope you and the other posters are OK today.

mowly77 · 16/10/2023 14:04

Yes @Lonesomefetter apparently cats purr at a frequency that can help

heal broken bones. I don’t have any of those but I feel that the purring might be generally healing.
