Got to wake up at 2:30am - can’t sleep!

Should I just give up and stay awake? We have to wake up at 2:30 to be at the airport. Short flight and relaxing holiday once there. The more I can’t sleep, the more I toss and turn and feel anxious about the lack of sleep I’m having! Isn’t it annoying that you can’t just sleep when you want to lol.

Yeh if I were you I'd read a book for thirty mins and if I hadn't fallen asleep by then, I'd get up and watch TV or something.

Happy holidays!

Thanks! I worry about getting zero sleep at all as I’ve always had at least 30 minutes… but i guess lots of people must do it

It's only 11pm, could you make a nest on the sofa and listen to an audio book (with an alarm) and call it a nap? At least your resting and no biggie either way.

I’d 100% stay up than have to wake from sleep at that time!

But I think sleep is somewhat overrated and can always be done another time!

gotomomo · 14/10/2023 23:06

I never sleep before middle of the night airport runs, it's so annoying

That’s true! I never sleep on planes though so I would be pulling an all nighter. Never actually done that as I say always had at least 30 mins so not sure how it would be?

Sleep and relax podcast helps me when I can’t switch my brain off and get to sleep.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 14/10/2023 23:15

You’ll be fine.
I’ve often been awake all day, worked a night shift, then just pushed through the next day.
Same as people who have babies that don’t sleep at night etc.
You’re not going to die/get ill from one night of no sleep!

SleepingisanArt · 14/10/2023 23:48

I never sleep before an early flight. Don't even go to bed! Just stay up, pack my case and then read or watch TV until its time to go. Then have a relaxing day at the other end, bed at normal time and enjoy the holiday.

Lucy12357 · 14/10/2023 23:50

I’d have taken half a sleeping tablet at 7pm!

Lifelong insomniac here.
If you think you can manage on zero sleep get up and watch TV.
If not lie down, get off your phone and read a book. Set a couple of alarms. In half an hour turn off the light and rest. Accept you won't sleep but will just rest. Maybe do a deep relaxation video on YouTube or just rest your eyes in the dark. Even resting is better than nothing.
