I am considering one.

If you own one, what do you think of it?

I've got a Google Nest doorbell, and to be honest, I wouldn't bother again. I like the camera, but Nest were bought by Google and it went downhill from there. Having invested in the ecosystem, they change it with 'improvements' that actually make it worse.

If you're out, and someone runs the doorbell, it can take so long to alert you and open the app that whoever is at the door has gone.

I understand that ring have a 'lite' version of their app, and haven't been a badly affected by being bought out by amazon so may be better at the moment.

The principle of them is great, the execution less so. Fortunately there are others on the market now that may be better.

When mine breaks, I'll probably just have a camera with movement detection and alerts.

I love my ring doorbell. The camera is great. I like the look of the Eufy ones too, which have local storage (I have to pay £3 odd a month for the privilege of reviewing footage when no longer live with Ring, although I don’t really mind…)

Aquamarine1029 · 14/10/2023 22:56

Love it. I get alerts almost instantaneously, my husband and I have tested it. I do not have Ring brand, though. We have Blink cameras.

Nikee20 · 14/10/2023 22:58

We have ring and it’s great. Very happy and a clear picture.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 14/10/2023 23:01

I've saved a lot of parcels from going back to depot with Ring doorbell.

And spotted owls, foxes, squirrels who have gone past the door.

stayathomegardener · 14/10/2023 23:44

Ring doorbell. I know it was next doors dog stealing our milk bottles.
Yes DH you did fork up the missing pillowcase whilst gardening.
Please don't wee in the front garden Aunt Anne.
And I can spy on the cat

DontBeAPrickDarren · 14/10/2023 23:47

Caught someone trying to break in on ours one evening, while we were in the house. On that basis I’m a fan.

Terfosaurus · 14/10/2023 23:48

My neighbours one is so loud it Wakes me up. Which would be less annoying at 9am than it is at 5am.

leein · 15/10/2023 00:52

I've just bought a Eufy doorbell, which doesn't have a subscription fee. Haven't set it up yet, but I'm looking forward to nosing at the passers by on my street.

Sunshineandrainbow · 15/10/2023 00:55

Haven't got one, worried I would be on edge when it alerts especially at night.

TallulahG · 15/10/2023 18:51

I really like our Ring! Worth it. Helped catch vandalism of our christmas decorations. Connects straight away so can talk to delivery drives etc.

megletthesecond · 15/10/2023 18:55

Love mine. I'm very nosy 😁. I know when the dogs are all walked around here. Great for deliveries if a driver isn't sure where to put them.
Caught some burglars on video going into a neighbours house the other day. Could send the clip to police. I video the path going past my house as its a dodgy area, no drive or front garden. I pay £34 for the annual ring subscription which keeps footage for 28 days.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 15/10/2023 18:57

Very handy. It’s not by any means an essential but it is useful. I’ve managed to get delivery drivers to slide parcels under the side gate for me and I can see when the teens get home from school safe without having to harass them via text while I’m at work.

Also for me who is a bit of a flapper and can be forgetful I can go back on and watch myself lock the door when I left so I don’t then sit on a long train ride/ in a work presentation etc spiralling into a doom cycle that I’ve left the house unlocked and burgers are currently ransacking the place and shaving the cat. This however is probably not applicable if you’re a capable and sane person unlike myself.

Chewbecca · 15/10/2023 18:58

They’re antisocial IMO.
I hate the fact that they ring outside as well as indoors. Why? Why do your neighbours need to know you have another delivery.
Plus if your path adjoins your neighbours, you are recording their comings and goings too which isn’t very polite.

VeridicalVagabond · 15/10/2023 19:01

Love mine, wfh but can't always come to the door so it's good to be able to say "I'm in, just leave it there" or "chuck it over the gate". Catches all the local wildlife's comings and goings too which is quite nice to look back on in the morning.

You can turn some/all alerts off at night, silence them etc. It's extremely customisable. I have one and I can actually draw on my phone screen, where I do and don't want it to film!
Also, it works on a motion-detection basis (you can also customise how sensitive that is too btw) and so isn't always filming.

I have mine set up where it doesn't alert me to motion, just records & saves all motion in the area I assigned. So if there's an incident, I can look it up on my recorded videos.
My neighbours are actually happy as they get free surveillance!

You can turn that down in the device's general settings

Chewbecca · 15/10/2023 19:27

Hmm, I wonder how to have that conversation with my neighbour!.
Perhaps they are on here - everyone please check your settings and make.it so your outside ringer is very quiet!

cherrypied · 15/10/2023 20:19

I love mine. Its more for the peace of mind i can see who is around the house than missed parcels.

Also a caught burglars at 3am- now in prison thanks to the ring.

Also other random things i never in my wildest dreams believed in would like: see if dh is home, see if dog sitter came, check up on house from holiday, observe the sunrise and sun set. Check on the cars when on holiday. Watch the dog as he fights me for the lead (everyday on way to day care), see if dh has walked dog at 6am. Check the weather from bed!

If they try saying that it's not possible, tell them it definitely is! In the App, under 'Devices' click on the device then Device Settings then General Settings then Volume Settings which will bring this up ⬇️

I have the indoor chime too. Without it the dc's wouldn't know anyone was at the door.
Ring have just added this years Halloween chimes, I'm easily pleased.
