Event going on in local pub tomorrow...DH and I have arranged to meet closest friends (a couple) and was looking forward to going.

Another friend who I don't see much of these days (and when I do she just vents about her problems) has text me today asking if we are going 😬

Obviously I can't stop her going, but wouldn't choose to spend the afternoon with her and her partner who we hardly know. If she didn't know the other couple I could just say we have plans with someone but she does know them (not friends just acquaintances)

Options are
Don't go at all/go elsewhere with other friends
Say "more the merrier" and they come along.
Saying we are going but they aren't welcome to join us isn't really an option.

All I've said so far "not sure what we are doing yet". WWYD?

Go with original plan. Text friend saying your'e going with neighbours/friends from work and maybe you'll see her there. If they all know each other, I guess you'd all end up together. If possible, I would avoid reading the message that arrived earlier and reply last minute, but that's because I don't like confrontation.

“I’m not sure what we’re doing yet.” is such an obvious no. They’ll have got the message.

Tbf, I haven't agreed a time to meet the other friends, as it's an all day event, so I wasn't lying 😂
