Charity or support for Palestinian people

I feel so helpless watching what’s happening in Gaza. What can Normal people in the UK do to support the Palestinian people? Is there a charity that’s is best to donate to? What else can we do that is practical?

I've donated to ActionAid.

IrmaBunt · 14/10/2023 20:20

Disasters Emergency Committee is always my first stop. They have a list of their members who have launched appeals: https://www.dec.org.uk/monitoring

Monitoring

We are closely monitoring a number of humanitarian disasters and assessing them against our criteria for launching an appeal.

ZoeyBartlett · 14/10/2023 20:30

Red Cross are in area and providing humanitarian where needed in Israel and OPT donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/israel-and-occupied-palestinian-territory-appeal

PaminaMozart · 14/10/2023 20:30

Medical Aid for Palestinians is a long established charity:

Thanks for the suggestions of charities to donate to. I’ll have a gander. It’s not much but at least it is something.

MSF is another charity and you could also write to your MP . I doubt my email will even be acknowledged but I needed to do something, however small.

headhurtstoomuch · 14/10/2023 21:02

There's a few. Many of the Muslim charities are collecting such as Muslim Hands.

Otherwise MAP as mentioned above or United Nations world food programme.

Trulywonderful · 14/10/2023 21:16

If you want to help then either in Gaza or wherever some flee too then stick with Red Cross the aid is more likely to go where you intend. They deal directly on the ground with citizens. Giving money or supplies to many of the smaller charities or even large groups you risk help getting diverted else where. Plus the Red Cross are a excellent charity.

PaminaMozart · 14/10/2023 21:21

Money given to charities like MAP or UNWRA that are focused on helping Palestinians is far less likely to be ‚diverted‘ than donations to charity behemoths like the Red Cross.

Yes I’ll do that. Sadly my MP is next to useless and always tows the party line, so suspect it will be useless.

There's no point in sending aid if it can't get in. The crucial thing is to break the blockade, now, or people will die of dehydration before any aid reaches them.

I understand that, but I was asking what I can do personally to be of support. I can’t break the blockade personally. What do we do individually to support those trying to make that happen.?

You could support the release of the Israeli hostages Hamas are refusing to give back, which would lift the blockade.

alrighthen · 14/10/2023 23:43

Doctors of the World have teams in Gaza currently too

Great idea. Give me a
sec, I’ll just call the Hamas leadership and ask them if they’ll release the hostages. 🙄

As if I have any more impact over the decision of Hamas as I do the Israeli government.

I wasn't speaking about any particular charity. It is just the simple fact that the Red Cross will have access to some where like Gaza faster most charities. They normally are allowed Iin as sofas the UN is and sometimes even when the UN are not allowed. The leaders of many states/Countries/war zones tend to trust the Red Cross to just give help.

Do you care at all about the kidnapped Israeli children?

If you do, I was told the Red Cross is the only charity who is also advocating for them.

ticketstickets · 22/10/2023 18:41

kidnapped adults too. 200 of them.

Great idea! In the meantime, can you call up the IDF and settlers who destroy and bulldoze Palestinian land at will, indiscriminately kill or torture Palestinian civilians cus they think of them as lesser humans, randomly beat and tie up peaceful worshippers in Al Aqsa in Ramadan for the last 75 years and ask them to stop? Also don't forget to ask them to release the thousands of Palestinian children who are held in jail, just because they can be. Thanks.
