Best flowers for a grave late October

My Dad's been gone 3 years now and every year on his birthday I order flowers for his grave. I don't live nearby so they deliver to my Mum and she takes them there. However I'm mindful that they probably don't last very long ( and my Mum probably inwardly judges me for the wastefulness.)

What would you recommend I order this year? I want fresh flowers that can be ordered from the florist and just placed down, but are there any particular flowers, or even a potted plant I could ask for. One other thing to note, the wildlife gets a bit hungry at this time of year and like to eat them as well 😡

You could plant a few bulbs like snowdrops, tete-a-tete daffodils and crocuses.
Chrysanthemums are usually long lasting if you have to use cut flowers.

Could you ask a local florist for a seasonal wreath?

Planting something would be nice if your mum would be up for that.

In our local cemetery there are some beautiful hellebores planted by the volunteer group - a good choice for something that can thrive over the winter. Bulbs for spring also lovely as the pp suggested.

Hellebores are lovely. Buy Helleborus Orientalis Mixed Plants | J Parker's (jparkers.co.uk).

Thanks everyone, has given me something to think about
